Take Advantage of DSWA Special Collection Events

Spring is in the air! With fresh spring air comes the urge to clean out that winter clutter that has been piling up. When the dust settles you might think, ‘What do I do with all this stuff? The Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) has a great solution for getting rid of those items.

DSWA recently kicked off its 2024 Special Collection Event Schedule. These events take place on select Saturdays throughout the year and move around the state. The Collection Events provide a free collection of household hazardous waste, electronics recycling, and the ability to shred personal documents.

Household Hazardous Waste can include items such as household cleaners, garden pesticides, oil-based paints, nail polish, fluorescent bulbs, and antifreeze. During these events, DSWA will also collect used electronics for recycling. Items can include old computers, printers, CD players, microwaves, telephones, televisions, video game systems, and many other electronic items. Residents can also bring up to two boxes of paper for shredding free of charge. Shredding sensitive documents is one way to reduce your risk of becoming an identity theft victim.

In addition to these Special Saturday events, DSWA provides weekly and monthly collections at its 3 Recycling Centers in New Castle and Kent Counties. Electronics are collected 6 days a week at each center, while Household Hazardous Waste is collected weekly and Document Shredding and Latex Paint Recycling is held once a month.

Each center also has a single stream recycling drop-off center available during business hours, along with a special container for Styrofoam. This unique program allows residents to drop off their clean Styrofoam, such as foam cups, foam plates, foam egg cartons, take out containers, as well as foam protective packaging typically used to protect consumer goods and electronics.

DSWA hopes residents will take advantage of these Recycling Centers that provide free services to residents of Delaware.
