I Need To Start Over Again At My Age

By Joe White

I need to start over again at my age . . . This is one of the big reasons why many of my clients first come to me.

Where in their lives? Usually, it is because of the end or a major change in a relationship; empty nest, an unexpected career change, sudden realization or change in finances.

Like you are treading water.

You will come back; you will overcome. That is where it begins, and it is the truth. How do I know that it is true? Because you have done it before.

One thing I have learned from over 27 years in practice is that most people, whether they realize it or not, have had to start all over again. It may not always look typical, but it counts regardless.

Survived a trauma? Lost anyone who was important to you? Recovered from financial challenges or heartache? Stuck in depression or anxiety and came out on the other side?

All of them count. Your greatest resource is you. You have done it before, and you can do it now.

Yes, of course, you may not want to. Actually, I think that for many of us, when we are confronted with the thought of starting over again or hitting the reset button again, we freeze because it feels impossible.

But what we like and don’t like is often different from what is required of you. Giving up can never be an option, so forward is where we go. Don’t worry about being perfect out of the gate. You won’t be, and that is OK. What matters most right now is taking action rather than inactivity or standing still.

It’s like a lot of people who go to the gym. They don’t want to go. They might complain to themselves. They might reluctantly change and drive to the gym, and even reluctantly walk in, but at some point, it shifts from “Oh, I have to work out today” to “Oh, I get to work out today.”

Many people who work out consistently know they just have to push through that initial phase when they don’t want to. On the other side of that is clean air. That’s a lesson that we all need to learn because the same mechanics apply here.

Just as my clients experience, when you have the right mindset, accountability, clarity, and strategy, things really do change; it’s not how you start that matters. It’s truly how you end.To find out more call me at 302-832-3424 or visit           www.GetLifeCoaching.com.

Testimonials

“Working with Joe has been a complete game-changer. I spent ten years trying therapy and other coaches, but no one truly understood me or could help, until I met Joe. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”  ~ Sarah T.

“I’ve been working with Joe for the past 6 months. I hit my mid-40s and lost my passion for work and, worse, my family and relationship. I was tentative because I didn’t want therapy, but everyone told me Joe is different. Thank God he was different, and that I went. My family and work thank him as well.” ~ James  R.
