Jeffrey Minkovitz, MD is an ophthalmologist and partner at Eye Physicians and Surgeons in Wilmington, Delaware. Dr. Minkovitz specializes in cataract and refractive surgery, and is one of only a few Delaware surgeons specially trained in corneal diseases and transplantation. He joined Eye Physicians in 1994, after completing a cornea and refractive surgery fellowship at the world renowned Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins. Previously, he graduated magna cum-laude from Harvard, earned his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, completed his internship at Harvard’s Mt. Auburn Hospital, and served his ophthalmology residency at Washington University.

Dr. Minkovitz is a co-founder of the Center for Advanced Surgical Arts, a AAAHC accredited surgery center specializing in ophthalmic and podiatric surgery, and serves on its medical advisory board. He is also on active staff at Christiana and Wilmington Hospitals, where he teaches ophthalmologists in training.

Dr. Minkovitz is known for introducing numerous ophthalmic procedures to Delaware, including Near Vision CK (for diminished reading vision), DALK and DSAEK (two newer and less invasive corneal transplant methods), laser assisted cataract surgery and PRK refractive surgery.

Dr. Minkovitz participated in the early research on Excimer Laser photorefractive surgery (PRK). He has offered this procedure to Delawareans since FDA approval in 1996, before Delaware had its own laser. These early pioneering individuals travelled to Wilmer Institute with Dr. Minkovitz, where he maintained his teaching and clinical appointment.

While at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Minkovitz received the Outstanding Teacher Award from Wilmer Eye Institute. He was also named Top Doc in ophthalmology by Delaware Today Magazine six consecutive years, and has been an invited instructor at the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meetings.

In 2016, Dr. Minkovitz founded Laser Vision Delaware, LLC, bringing a newer generation of laser technology to Delaware, and has made this technology available to other Delaware eye surgeons in order to benefit any Delaware patients seeking laser vision correction.

Dr. Minkovitz served as councilor to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and has held several offices including president of the Delaware Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Bradford Klassman strives to provide his patients with the most comprehensive and technologically advanced periodontal and implant treatment available. He is the first periodontist in the State of Delaware to offer Laser Periodontal Therapy and the All-on-Four®Protocol, an alternative to traditional dentures.

The use of the laser is a less invasive procedure and an exciting alternative to traditional gum surgery (no cutting and no stitches). LANAP™, short  for the  Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure, eliminates many of the reasons that so many patients hesitate to seek treatment for periodontal disease, and helps ensure that patients get the best possible dental care, by reducing post-operative pain, the number of sessions required and the recovery time.

Dr. Brad is also proud to provide his patients with a virtual “Same Day Smile” by using  single implant(s) or the All-on- 4® Protocol. The All-on-4® protocol uses only four dental implants to replace an entire arch of teeth. By having the extractions, implant placement, and temporary restoration on the same day, Dr. Klassman puts a smile back on his patient’s face in no time. This technique allows him to correct bite problems that were not correctable with other treatment options.

Dr. Brad teaches at the Christiana Care Department of Dentistry and Oral Surgery, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Delaware State Dental Society, American Academy of Periodontology, and the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry.

He lives in Hockessin, Delaware with his fiancée Holly, and their three children. Dr. Brad is an avid fisherman and an excellent cook. He often enjoys sharing his “Catch of the Day” with his staff. He is an advocate for health, nutrition and wellness. He also enjoys practicing yoga. Dr. Brad supports many charities, and recently sponsored and participated in Kids Runway for Research and the Easter Seals Volleyball Challenge.

For more information or to schedule an appointment please contact Delaware Periodontics at 302-658-7871, or visit us on the web at www.delawareperiodontics.com.

Dr. Anthony D. Alfieri, DO, FACC is an interventional cardiologist in the New Castle County area. Dr. Alfieri graduated from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1985, then proceeded his Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at Albert Einstein Medical Center. After completing his fellowship, he opened his own practice in Wilmington, DE, specializing in Cardiovascular Disease, Internal Medicine, and Interventional Cardiology. He is affiliated with Christiana Care Christiana Hospital and Christiana Care Wilmington Hospital. Alfieri Cardiology is triple certified by ICANL (nuclear medicine), ICAE (echocardiography), and ICAVL (vascular testing). These accreditations prove our ability to provide the best cardiac care possible.

For 25 years, Dr. Alfieri practiced interventional cardiology, placing stents in people’s hearts. During that time, Dr. Alfieri noticed many of his patients that he treated had severe vein disease and the treatment at the time seemed to be inadequate. He took it upon himself to undergo the study of vein disease, which is known as Phlebology. While Phlebology has been around for some time, this field has been emerging with new and innovative techniques to treat varicose veins. In 2008, Dr. Alfieri opened the Delaware Advanced Vein Center where he treats patients with venous insufficiency. He encourages his patients to not be limited by apprehension of misinformation especially when they are living with a treatable and preventable condition such as varicose veins, especially since in most cases the treatment is covered by most insurances. Today, it is the largest vein center in Delaware.

Dr. Alfieri resides in Wilmington, Delaware. He is an avid gardener, enjoys mountain biking and raises orchids in his spare time. He enjoys traveling especially to places where he can view orchids in the wild. Anthony can be seen on the local mountain biking trails. Anthony and his family plan to bike the entire Erie Canal this summer. He believes staying active is the key to staying young.

Having practiced law for over 33 years representing clients injured in serious motor vehicle accidents or on the job, I appreciate that my position affords me the opportunity to educate and help individuals who are facing serious life challenges at a difficult time. I’ve been a partner with the Morris James Personal Injury Group for 15 years, but have dedicated my entire career to protecting my clients and ensuring that they and their families are treated fairly and receive all insurance benefits to which they are entitled. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to develop personal relationships with my clients and help them navigate through the legal process.

When you enjoy what you do, you are not working at a job, you are fulfilling a passion. I feel so honored every day to have the opportunity to do what I love! What makes me feel really good is to be able to make a positive change in another person’s life, whether in a very small or very large way.

My other passion and privilege is to volunteer. Over the years, I have volunteered for various non-profit groups and my church. I have been blessed with the education and skills that help me to help others who are struggling. I am most thankful for the opportunity to help children, the elderly, and veterans, all of whom may be vulnerable and need assistance. For over ten years now, I have volunteered as a Guardian Ad Litem attorney in Family Court, representing children who are abandoned or abused. For the past 15 years, I have served on the Board of Marydale, a senior housing community. I am so happy to see the many services Marydale offers to their residents, and am honored to be on this board. I also currently serve as Vice-Chair on the Board of Sojourners’ Place. Its mission is to assist the homeless on their journey to self-sufficiency through a case-managed, residential program. It is so rewarding to hear the graduates (many of whom are veterans) speak of how the program helped them find their road to recovery, employment, and independent living.

Some people enjoy sports or hobbies . . . I enjoy helping others. This is why I am not working at a job, but I am fulfilling a passion. Every day I meet with clients who are seriously injured at work or in automobile accidents. Each client faces unique, challenging life situations because of the injuries they sustained in the accident. I believe I am able to ease their worries because if I accept their case, my clients know I will do all I can for them. What a great feeling to have the privilege to really help someone every day!

Shannon_Adelson_jas16To Our Photographer

This issue our People in Profile were photographed by Shannon Adelson of Adelson Media, Inc. We had a wonderful time working with Shannon, and since this is our first time working with Shannon we have provided a little about who Shannon is:

Shannon Adelson has been doing photography since he was a kid and has always been involved with the arts. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. He has been shooting semi-professionally since 2005 but didn’t officially open his own business (Adelson Media, Inc.) until 2008. In addition to photography he has a background managing marketing and social media for an online retailer. When an opportunity to shoot music events presented itself, he decided to follow his passion and to go full time with Adelson Media, Inc.

Once he made the decision to pursue professional photography full-time, he enhanced his arsenal by joining the National Association of Photoshop Professionals. Shannon said that the process of taking pictures has always been fun; but recently he discovered the joy and wonder of making portraits. Using creative compositional elements like light, color, framing, gesture, expression, and depth of field, every image can tell its own story.

Thanks Shannon for a great job!
