Both men and women have target areas of their bodies that they would like to alter. Body contouring and fat reduction procedures give patients options.

Achieving a flat, toned abdomen can be difficult. Sometimes diet and exercise are not enough to achieve this goal. Even patients who are at an appropriate body weight can develop a bulging, loose, or sagging belly. Two of the most popular body contouring options are tummy tucks and liposuction procedures.

Tummy tuck surgery

Pregnancy or extreme weight loss may result in an unwanted abdominal pouch. When an individual gains weight, the skin stretches to accommodate the body change. When the same person experiences sudden or significant weight loss, the skin does not have the elasticity to return to its original form. The result is loose, sagging skin.

A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty removes the sagging, stretched skin and excess fat that is causing the unwanted belly bulge. The skin is tightened. Abdominal muscles that are weak or have separated are corrected to produce a smooth, firm abdominal profile. Depending on your individual needs, a full tummy tuck or a mini tuck may be performed. A mini tuck is performed when only the area below the belly button needs to be addressed and tightened. The procedure is effective for men and women.

A tummy tuck is performed under general anesthesia. The skin and fatty tissue are lifted off the abdominal wall. The muscles are repaired. The skin is pulled tight and the excess is removed. The belly button remains in the same position but is now surrounded by tighter skin. With a healthy lifestyle, the results of a tummy tuck are long-lasting.

A tummy tuck can help:

  • Tighten abdominal muscles
  • Get rid of excess, sagging skin
  • Remove stretch marks
  • Eliminate stubborn abdominal fat
  • Improve confidence

Body contouring with liposuction

Liposuction can be performed on its own or with a tummy tuck. We all have those stubborn fat pockets that are resistant to diet and exercise. Those little love handles that just won’t go. Liposuction involves safely removing the fat between muscle and skin effectively reshaping your problem areas. When an individual loses weight, fat cells are not actually lost. They shrink. The same cells expand with weight gain. The only way to actually eliminate fat cells is with a fat reduction or removal system.

One of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, liposuction, or lipo, slims and sculpts areas of the body. Fat is removed to reshape or contour the body. Liposuction is not meant to be a weight loss system for removing large amounts of fat. It is ideal for patients with a small pocket of fat that just will not go away without a little extra help. Common treatment areas include the abdomen, flanks, thighs, knees, buttocks, arms and neck.
