Every Story Deserves To Be Told

By  |  0 Comments

On a warm summer afternoon, the quiet hum of gratitude filled the Hatzis home as loved ones gathered to pay tribute to a man whose life has been defined by service, devotion, and love. On July 6, 2025, Thomas Hatzis—a proud World War II Army Veteran—was honored with a Veteran Pinning Ceremony in recognition of his military service. But what unfolded that day was more than a moment of remembrance. It was a testament to a love story that has stood the test of time.

The ceremony was held in the comfort of the Hatzis residence, a home filled with memories, warmth, and devotion. Mr. Hatzis’ beloved wife, Bing, welcomed family and friends with grace and warmth, setting the stage for an intimate and moving event. Theresa Jenkins, a BAYADA nurse, had the honor of pinning Mr. Hatzis, symbolizing a nation’s gratitude for his sacrifices. She read aloud the Soldier’s Creed, her voice steady and reverent—a voice echoing the values Mr. Hatzis carried through war and peace.

Thomas Hatzis served in the United States Army during World War II, a time that shaped not only the world but also the man he would become. Courage, loyalty, and quiet strength are the hallmarks of those who serve—and Thomas embodied each of them. Even now, in his later years, his admiration for military leadership endures. He often revisits the 1970 classic film Patton, drawn to General George S. Patton’s bold spirit and unwavering resolve. That admiration is more than symbolic; Thomas has continued to give back to his fellow service members, donating generously to organizations such as the Tunnels to Towers Foundation and the Wounded Warrior Project.

But beyond the uniform and the medals lies a story just as profound: the love between Thomas and Bing.

Mrs. Hatzis shared cherished memories with those in attendance, painting vivid scenes of afternoons spent strolling hand-in-hand through Longwood Gardens, where blooming flowers and dancing fountains became the backdrop to their quiet romance. Their love has always been more than words—it’s in the way they look at one another, in the way they care for each other, and in the gentle moments they still share. One such moment is forever captured in an oil painting hanging in their home—a portrait of two people, deeply in love, surrounded by the serenity they created together.

Though BAYADA Hospice was honored to help facilitate this day, the real story is theirs—Thomas and Bing’s unwavering devotion, a shared journey marked by resilience, compassion, and a quiet, enduring grace. It’s the kind of love that inspires others to hold their own relationships a little closer, to walk a little slower, and to say “thank you” a little more often.

Veteran Pinning Ceremonies are deeply meaningful. They offer a final gesture of gratitude to those who have served—acknowledging not just the individual, but the family that stood beside them. In the case of Thomas Hatzis, the ceremony served as both a military honor and a celebration of a life richly lived and lovingly shared.

Every story deserves to be told. And the story of Thomas and Bing Hatzis is one we are privileged to witness—a reminder that heroism doesn’t always come with fanfare. Sometimes, it comes with quiet strength, heartfelt gestures, and a lifetime of love.
