Named a first state favorite for three years in a row, Dover Federal Credit Union’s (DFCU) growth over 6 decades can be attributed to their steadfast commitment to their member-owners, the communities they serve and social responsibility. Dover Federal prides itself on social responsibility. From team members on the front line up to the Executive level, DFCU consciously and consistently can be seen volunteering their time and resources to help empower others.
In any given month, it’s not uncommon to see team members not only raise funds, but volunteer with organizations such as Special Olympics DE, working in teams at the Food Bank of DE, serving meals at Mom’s House, volunteering at the DAFB air show, collecting school supplies for children in need, building ramps for disabled veterans or contributing to the needs of local code purple shelters, just to name a few.
In addition to these initiatives, DFCU team members take personal responsibility in their commitment to support our community’s economic challenges and hardships, as well as help influence economic development for our state. A reflection of this, is evidenced in their involvement from serving on local boards of charities, and non-profits, supporting local charities monthly, to offering free financial literacy to the community, in an effort to empower consumer and help provide financial strength and stability.
As a financial cooperative, we are committed to the philosophy of “People Helping People” and empowering consumer’s financial well-being. Dover Federal provided more than 259 financial literacy classes in 2017. These classes and courses covered topics ranging from Budgeting, Understanding Credit, Auto Buying, Home Buying to Credit Score Analysis. All the classes were taught with the intention to help consumers become financial savvy, smart, independent and stable. Because DFCU understands that ‘LIFE HAPPENS’, they have developed personal financial literacy consultations to help review credit reports, understand what may be impacting credit scores and devise plans that help rebuild one’s credit over the course of a year. This is not just something they SAY, but something they DO.
