Choosing The Right Funeral Home Matters

The fact of the matter

Death is inevitable. Funerals provide an opportunity to memorialize a life that has been lived and mourn the loss. When it comes time to make final arrangements for a loved one, you may feel overwhelmed and confused about the steps and options. The staff at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home has the experience and expertise to guide families through this difficult time.

Whether you’d like a traditional funeral service or a more creative celebration of life, we can assist you in selecting the options that hold significance for you and your family.

Why it matters

There are many ways to meet the emotional needs of those left behind after a death. The easiest way is to preplan the service with a licensed funeral director. Preplanning allows you to make sound decisions that bring peace of mind to you and your family. It removes the emotional burden from loved ones and assures that your funeral will be conducted according to your wishes.

Prepaying takes that one step further and eliminates the financial burden on a family. Family members are relieved of the emotional strain of figuring out how to pay for the funeral. Additionally, prepaying locks in your funeral cost at today’s prices while leaving life insurance and other assets for survivors.

What matters to you

Most funerals, however, are arranged at the time of need.

When choosing a funeral home, you should feel relaxed with the staff. Are they willing to listen to you? Do they offer options for services? Can they accommodate your special request?

If you are planning a viewing at the funeral home, look around. Will your family and friends feel comfortable there? Is it easy to find? Are the rooms tidy and pleasant or cold and sterile? Is there adequate parking? Is the neighborhood clean and safe? I encourage you to stop by our funeral homes in Elsmere and Historic New Castle to get a feel for the ambiance.

A matter of life and death

Letting go of a loved one is a difficult process. We offer complete care so you can focus on comforting each other as you prepare to say goodbye to someone dear to you.

We offer a selection of funeral and memorial services, from traditional to uniquely innovative. Several options for burial and cremation are available, including full service, immediate burial, contemporary memorials, and tributes to veterans and service personnel. We have experience in handling regional, national, and international transfers.

Although many decisions must be made, we will guide you through the process and handle all the details. We will help design a ceremony that honors your loved one’s memory and pays tribute to their achievements and experiences.

As a matter of fact

Krienen Brothers Funeral Home began in 1917 as a partnership between my great-grandfather, Carl H. Krienen, and his brother, William J. Krienen, and was incorporated in 1928. A location in New Castle was purchased that year. In 1964, Carl’s sons, William J. Krienen, II and Carl H. Krienen, Jr. acquired the business. William was my grandfather.

In 1970, the brothers purchased Griffith Mortuary. Since then, the corporate name has been Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home.

Upon Bill’s death in 1993 and Carl’s retirement in 1994, my father, William J. Krienen III, became President. He held the post until January 2021 when I assumed the position. I am proud to be the fourth generation leading the company and one of the few females in Delaware to manage a funeral operation.
