Hair goes through cycles.

It is either growing, resting, or falling out. There have been times in my life where my fall out rate was much more noticeable and of course panic sets into the hearts of anyone who has ever experienced such times. Personality, my worst times were after trauma, pregnancy, stress, extreme exercise, and anytime my life goes out of balance (lack of sleep, nutrition and exercise). Of course there are other factors like alopecia, pattern baldness, hair pulling (Trichotillomania), X-rays, low thyroid functioning, nutrient deficiencies (iron or biotin), hormonal problems, aging, skin disease, and chemotherapy.

If you are seeing large amounts of hair loss, it is important to see your doctor to rule out an underlying disease. After that we can look at alternative treatments.

At Amelia Paris Salon your scalp is carefully looked at to see just how healthy it is. We know if you desire a lush mane we must increase the blood flow to the scalp by a head massage. So your stay with us will start there. We often will add essential oils to our shampoos as they add to the healing touch of loving fingers. For example, if you have dandruff we may add lavender or rosemary oil; or for fragile hair, clary sage; while greasy/oily hair would do well with lemon, rosemary or thyme, and to stimulate growth a good choice would be ginger or grapefruit. We also teach you the importance of your own home care routine for your greatest success.

Do you know hair brushing is a lost art? Many of my clients do not even own the right brush for cleaning the scalp. We teach you how to brush the hair in all different directions with a drop of oil to balance your own personal issues of your scalp, and we sell our favorite professional brushes and essential oils. There are so many nerve endings in the scalp. That is why it feels so good to have your hair shampooed and styled.

We also know about diet. According to Trivieri & Anderson’s latest book, Alternative Medicine, The Definitive Guide; “Whole food diets high in the outer coverings of plants such as potato skins, green and red peppers, sprouts, and cucumbers are high in silicon, which gives strength to hair and nails. Foods high in iron, such as lean meats and raisins are also important. Sea vegetables such as kelp are good for the hair and thyroid. Also drinking goat’s milk instead of cow’s milk.” They also recommend, “flaxseed oil, biotin, zinc, amino acid blends, vitamin B complex, iron, and trace minerals.” Juices are a great hair cocktail! Try carrot, beet, spinach, nettle, alfalfa, and for a kick add a shot of onion juice to any cocktail for added bling! If you are into Ayurveda try ashwagandha, and amla, for hair growth. And of course stay away from sugar as it is poison for all systems of the body.
