THE REHOBOTH BEACH JAZZ FESTIVAL
“THE GREATEST JAZZ FESTIVAL IN THE WORLD” CELEBRATING OUR 25th ANNIVERSARY
This is my 18th year as President of the Delaware Celebration of Jazz promoting the Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival and every year is just as exciting as my first. The dates for this year’s event are October 16th to October 19th , 2014.
It all started with a small group of businesses that wanted to promote music and extend the summer season to bring people into town for the fall season. Most of the artists performed at the Rehoboth Beach bandstand and to think we are celebrating their 25th year is truly amazing; as is the fact that it has grown to be one of the top Festivals in the Country.
Through the years we have had many Grammy winning artists such as Queen Latifah, Chaka Khan, Al Green, George Benson, Dionne Warwick, Jeffery Osborne, Patti Austin, Al Jarreau, BB King, Boney James, Dave Koz, there are so many more that there would not be enough space to mention all of them.
I believe what makes this particular Festival so wonderful is the Sussex County area. We have the ocean, beach, and boardwalk not to mention great shopping and fabulous restaurants- this overall combination is the key. During the weekend of the Festival, almost every restaurant and many area businesses have music. All of our attendees can walk around town and be festive and enjoy all the great music when they dine and shop; and they do not have to purchase tickets for our main stages. Now that we have expanded to Dewey Beach, Highway One, and into the city of Lewes it is so exciting knowing the expansion will bring more people into our area to enjoy this great festival.
So many people tell me how much they look forward to attending every year via email or when they see me during the festival. To them it is truly a great destination; where they have a wonderful time at our Festival.
This year promises to be a great 25th Anniversary party. Confirmed artists so far: Brian Simpson (the winner of our performer of the year award), Boney James, Marc Antoine, Steve Cole, Nick Colionne, Kim Waters, Gerald Albright, Patti Austin, Jesse J, Jackiem Jointer, and Matt Marshak. We are waiting on confirmation from Buddy Guy, Trombone Shorty, Lalah Hathaway, Ruben Studdard and many more.
