Anyone who truly knows  me, understands that massage and helping people through times of trouble and unbalance is my passion. I thrive on being able to direct energy and intention to ease our difficult and sometimes scary steps on the journey through this lifetime.

A woman carrying a child in her uterus can be one of those times ~ especially if it is her first experience with motherhood. Each day brings a new sensation in her body, a new worry or concern to her mind and a new jolt to her spirit of the upcoming change to her life. “Am I going to be able to handle all of this and stay true to myself?!”

The simple and maybe somewhat naïve answer to most of life’s curveballs is RELAX.

Bodywork during a woman’s 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy can be one of the best ways to de-stress her mind, soothe her expanding body’s muscles and strengthen her resolve and confidence.

There are many common discomforts during pregnancy, including morning sickness, leg cramps, fatigue, edema, heartburn, sciatica and hemorrhoids to name just a few. The many different modalities of massage, such as reflexology, acupressure and myofascial release can provide relief.

Be sure to choose a therapist who is nationally certified in massage and is schooled in the various techniques of massage for mom and baby.

Draping is very important in making the client as comfortable as possible and protecting her privacy. There are also several points on the body that should not be massaged during pregnancy because there is a chance of forced miscarriage. Erring on the side of caution is key.

Massage therapy treatment is also very successful for increasing a woman’s chances of fertility. Again, it seems to have a lot to do with the relaxation, bliss and balance that comes from a massage experience but it also is the illuminations of toxins from the body, expediting the release of hormones into the bloodstream and a deep, abdomen massage that prepares the “hara” or fire of the belly for procreation. In my fertility massage sessions, I usually lead the client through a guided meditation – having them call the spirit of their future child into their being. It always is a very profound ritual.

And the bodywork a woman receives after she gives birth is even more important than the ones she gets while pregnant. A post partum massage utilizes compression techniques, cranial sacral therapy and reiki to balance the mind, body and spirit and keep depression at bay. The treatment is essential to returning the body back to its “normal” state as hormones and emotions are still heightened. Recommended weekly or bi-weekly for the first 12 weeks post partum, infants can attend as well and be nursed while mom is in the side-lying position.
Pregnancy is a precious, sacred time in a woman’s life. A miracle in the making process can also be scary and disrupted by uncomfortable pain and fatigue. Be good to yourself and those soon-to-be moms you know by insisting on quality bodywork on a regular basis. Helping people across new thresholds with massage and energy work is my passion. Please do not hesitate to reach out for a consultation.

“The additional fluid build-up that settled in my joints from pregnancy caused discomfort. This was greatly alleviated with a weekly massage from Diane. Also low back soreness and sciatica nerve issues benefited from my massage experience. I also found a place of calmness, warmth, and serenity that I could look forward to at each visit.” ~Heather U., Milton, baby due in April

Regarding craniosacral therapy ~ “The feeling is like floating on my back in the ocean and the water is moving around either side of my head. By the time it is over, I’m still in a pool of relaxation with water lapping all around me. It is the coolest feeling ever!” ~Kathy R, Philadelphia, PA

“I’ve been getting massages from Diane for more than 7 years. I love her quieting grounded energy and peaceful nature and the way that Diane approaches each massage with a caring and a simply magical touch.  Each massage session is catered to my body issues and I always leave feeling peaceful and pain-free. I’m her number one fan!”  ~Denise V, Chicago, IL

Publisher’s Note:
Diane is an incredible bodyworker. She combined a body scrub, then a wonderful seaweed wrap, and finally a warm oil massage. It was so relaxing that I fell asleep, and my skin felt like velvet. I can’t wait to go again. Thanks, Diane
