From the unique yet cozy atmosphere, the Spanish music playing softly in the background, to the amazing food, Ole Tapas offers a fine dining experience for everyone.
Whether sitting at the bar enjoying a wonderful sangria, or one of the house specialty cocktails, or sitting around one of the tables with friends, you experience a relaxing atmosphere combined with superb service.

The ambience of the restaurant is incredible. The overall atmosphere is very traditional and luxurious. All the artwork is done by Josh Wagner, a local artist, which adds to the harmonious feeling of the restaurant.

The menu is traditional Spanish tapas, made for sharing. We always begin with an assorted meat and cheese plate; the Spanish equivalent to a Charcuterie. Watching the bartender cutting razor thin slices of prosciutto from a rack behind the bar never fails to bring a gleam to our guest’s eyes. With several options of meat & cheese, you can create your own combination of flavors, or you can request the chef’s selection.

The menu is expansive, and the main problem seems to be limiting the order. The staff is very well educated in the preparation and combinations of the food offered, and make wonderful suggestions.
From the pumpkin hummus to the seared duck, Ole offers something for every taste. For a true experience, try one of the houses Paella; Saffron rice mixed with your choice of meats and seafood, spiced to perfection. It serves 2-3 people generously, and is well worth the wait. The variety of combinations seems infinite, from the subtle to the bold, the flavors dance across your pallet, creating a unique experience.

A Spanish staple, empanadas, are a true delight at Ole. I have had plenty of dry, basic empanadas from other restaurants in the past, but with Ole I simply must order the Empanada of the Day each time I go. Not your traditional empanada, it is a large, round and delicious filled pastry with a perfectly flakey crust. Daily specials might include chicken and chickpea filling or other, drizzled with chipotle sauce placed on atop a bed of salty salad greens that enhance the savory empanada.

Try to save room for dessert; the rice pudding has always been a favorite of ours, as well as the churros, served with warm chocolate syrup for dipping. The pumpkin bread pudding served with homemade cinnamon ice cream is equally amazing.

I know some people have the experience from other Tapas restaurants that they feel like they leave feeling hungry. Trust me, with the selection and delectableness of Ole’s Tapas menu, you will never leave feeling hungry. It is much more likely you will leave impressed and excited for your next visit.

I have always been a fan of Tapas; I love the rich Spanish flavors, and the small portions mean you can try many different items at once. But with Ole Tapas Lounge and Restaurant on Kirkwood Highway in Newark, I am even more enthralled than I typically am with Tapas eateries. Why?... It’s simple, everything from the warm décor, to the tasty drink concoctions, to the authentic Tapas, to the friendly and knowledgeable service, to the sweet desserts combine to make a dining experience that’s hard to top.

But with Ole Tapas Lounge and Restaurant on Kirkwood Highway in Newark, I am even more enthralled than I typically am with Tapas eateries. Why?… It’s simple, everything from the warm décor, to the tasty drink concoctions, to the authentic Tapas, to the friendly and knowledgeable service, to the sweet desserts combine to make a dining experience that’s hard to top.

You can tell that thought goes into every detail of the restaurant. Drinks aren’t simply thrown together & called a fancy name. No, at Ole you will find yourself sipping delightful combinations such as the Sparkling Meyer Lemon Blueberry Mojito, made with Meyer Lemon, blueberry, mint, and Cava. Or another great combination: the White Dove, a combination of Cazadores Reposado, grapefruit, and cayenne. Of course even as lovely as these drinks are, it’s always hard to make myself stray from some of the best sangria I have tasted. Although Tinto (red) is my favorite, Ole’s sangria selection also includes Rosado (rose) and Blanco (white).

Once you’ve wet your palette on one of these cocktails, turn your eyes to a vast menu with endless possibilities. Changing monthly, you’ll never get an opportunity to get bored of this menu. But I’ll warn you, once you read these descriptions, you won’t be able to resist visiting this alluring restaurant, most likely on a regular basis… Some of my favorites include: Queso Jerezano – seared Miti Cana goat cheese with Sherry reduction, Higos con Cabrales – bacon wrapped figs with cabrales, Chuletas De Cordero – baby lamb chops, and Piquillo Relleno De Morcilla – piquillo pepper stuffed with morcilla de burgos.

In each of these tapas you will find the meats cooked to perfection, and the flavor combinations tantalizing. Another favorite that the ever-gracious bartender, Jose, recommended is the selection of meats & cheeses. Order this combo and you will find yourself presented with a gorgeous selection of thinly sliced meats, cheeses, and sauces with unending flavor combinations that will keep your taste buds dancing. Of course you’re not limited to just tapas, you’ll also find delicious menu specials and Ole’s specialty, Paellas. Their traditional Valencian Paella with saffron rice and various seafoods is as tasty as it is beautiful.

Not that you’ll have room for it, but you’ll have to order dessert. Ole Tapas makes an unbelievable Rice Pudding that is unlike any I’ve ever had before (spiced to perfection & layered with oranges). Their fresh French Pressed Coffee goes perfectly with the Churros con Chocolate, a patron favorite of crisp churros with hot chocolate for dipping.

With so many wonderful things on the menu & an ever-changing menu, you’ll need to come back again and again.

When we ask a restaurant to come into our paper we do so after much consideration. We will try their menu on many occasions, we grade them on service, quality of food, and atmosphere. Then on our return trips we grade them again, but we add one more important stipulation…Consistency in all of the above mentioned items.

Ole Tapas is all of the above and more. From the very first time I walked in I was greeted by a friendly face, unsurpassed beauty in the décor…and food that I will dream about for many years. I have always been a fan of Tapas; because it is great food with lots of flavor, and I can try many different items at once. So if you are someone who loves the big buffet, all you can eat kind of guy thing, then you may not be as happy with the Tapas concept as I am, but I can say that I have never left hungry or unsatisfied. Some of my favorite items on the menu are as follows:

If you can read the descriptions that follow and don’t want to run out and have dinner tonight at Ole Tapas then you must be on some kind of strange diet. Notice I started with the coffee and desert…I love desert, and Ole Tapas makes great deserts…So I eat mine first with their fantastic French Pressed Coffee: Biscocho de Arandano (blueberry pound cake with lemon curd ), and an unbelievable rice pudding that is unlike any I’ve ever had before (spiced to perfection & layered with oranges).

Filet Mignon al Cabrales (Caramelized onions and cabrales); Queso Jerezano (seared Miti Caña goat cheese with Sherry reduction) Chuletas de Cordero (baby lamb chops); Montadito de Pato (Seared duck with orange); Codornis con pisto Manchego (grilled quail with market vegetables); Higos con Cabrales (bacon wrapped figs with Cabrales); Gambas al Ajillo (sautéed shrimp with garlic).
And of course, no meal at Ole would be complete without some of their delightful Sangria. My personal favorite is the red Sangria, but try all three varieties because each is wonderful and refreshing in its own way.

Who is Ole Tapas?

What Are Tapas?
The term Tapas in Spanish means a lid or cover. It is believed to have come from the old Andalusian custom of presenting a glass of wine or sherry covered with a slice of ham or sausage as an appetizer. It became an established tradition, the range of items offered grew, and today it has become one of the most popular ways to eat.
