Without a doubt, hair is the most important changeable feature that we have. Many people come to us with a desire for a fresh new style.

Here at Rene Delyn our team of color experts are ready to assist you with making those important decisions about a new style. We believe in educating our clients and giving tips that may help aid in their decision-making about a new look.

First, we want to make sure that a specific style is compatible with our client’s lifestyle. An extreme style may fit well with someone who works in a creative field, but not so much so for the more business professional. Whether you’re making over your color, cut or both, it’s important to know what works well for you. When it comes to getting great hair, look no further than in the mirror. After determining your face shape, we will create balance and beauty by helping you select a style that will emphasizes your best features. Forget “just the usual” trim and go for something a little more updated. Stiff, over-styled hair is out of fashion; where as flowing, natural hair is currently in style. Women’s hairstyles are seeing a return to more soft feminine waves.

Emily Moses: “I like to change my color a lot and it always feels healthy and shiny even after a drastic change. I’ve gotten so many compliments.”

Try transforming your fringe to a fuller bang. Bangs, when done correctly, can compliment almost any face shape. You may desire a more defined shaped, which can be created with layering. Some people have a big misconception about layers. However, layering the hair can frame the face in a very complimenting way, create depth and enhance body and movement. When layers are properly placed, it can make thicker hair more manageable and give a fuller appearance to thinner hair.

We believe in staying up to date on current styles and ever changing hairstyling techniques. Our stylists have traveled the U.S. and abroad to further their education in this industry. After studying in Taiwan at the Vern Styling College, Rene has brought extensive cutting knowledge and training to the Rene Delyn Team. By using the Vern Combined Scissors Technique, our stylists are able to create texture, adjust hair volume and transform your haircut to a softer longer lasting style. With the eight interchangeable scissors, there simply is nothing that compares to the guaranteed satisfaction that this cutting technique can provide.

Pam Matthews: “The before and after blew my family away. Thank you for making me feel so comfortable.”

Now, there is no better way to compliment your updated haircut than with a fresh new color. Whether it is highlighting to brighten and accent or lowlights to create depth. It is important to stick with colors that compliment one’s skin tone; the key is finding the right shade for you. From warmer richer reds to icy cool blondes, we at Rene Delyn are here and ready to help you with your color choice.

Rene Delyn Stylists are on hand to assist you in transforming your hair and makeup for even those more special occasions. Hair inspirations are coming straight from the runways. From low knots to stunning braids, these looks are sure to turn heads at every occasion of the season.

“There is so much to treating the overall health and well being of a person than just addressing their symptoms when an acute illness occurs. I like to focus on what is going on with a person’s health every day. It’s the little things that are really important in the long run. What kind of nutrients we are taking in and how that affects how our bodies and minds work. Another example of how closely our minds and bodies are intertwined was demonstrated in a study that showed how a cosmetic medical treatment, such as a rhinoplasty, can have the same benefit to mood and well being as 10 years of intensive psycho-therapy. Our bodies and minds are very closely related and I really embrace this concept in my practice.”

Dr. Parsons lives in Bethany Beach area with her husband and young son, who is a fifth generation Sussex Countian. Dr. Parsons sees patients in her office in Rehoboth Beach during the week. Appointments can be made by calling 302-227-1079.

By: Ernie Angiolillo, Owner

Here we are once again, another holiday season is upon us – shopping, cooking, planning, preparing, entertaining – making lists and checking them twice.

It really is a magical time of year, when suddenly most everyone’s focus changes and a giving spirit hums through the air. The holiday season means something different from family to family, but nearly everyone upholds a tradition of gift giving in some fashion or another. From office gift exchanges to Santa’s giant bag filled with toys, the idea of wrapping a special surprise in shining paper for someone that you care about and watching them open it in surprise and joy is an emotion that we all crave year after year. The often unfortunate reality of this process, is our innate desire to give that “perfect” gift and having no idea where to begin.

And so, the quest for the perfect gift . . .
Although we have all been plagued with this thought, women seem to have a slightly better knack for getting the job done than their male counterparts. Perhaps, women listen better or maybe just shop more and “know” what’s available but regardless, I’d like to share a little of my male insight on giving the perfect gift. First let me say, yes, I am a jeweler and have been involved in the jewelry business pretty much my entire life in some way or another. My parents opened Erncol Jewelry Shoppe (named for my sister and I—Ernest and Colette) in 1986. But I am also a “guys-guy” who lives for the Eagles, has season tickets to the Phils, plays ice hockey in a league as well as a father to a twinkling-eyed little lady, so my words are grounded in reality and not just sales.

Why is the gift of jewelry almost always perfect? The list is nearly endless, dating back to the beginning of time. Jewelry has actual worth and has always represented power and wealth and over centuries has acquired symbolism that equates receiving and having jewelry with that of being loved, honored and treasured. No matter how dazzling the iPhone4 S is, it doesn’t carry the unspoken meaning of a simple band of gold. History aside, there are some very simple reasons why giving the gift of jewelry will (almost always) be perfect. First and foremost, jewelry is a gift that can be worn every single day and the metal actually warms to your body temperature, as it is always against your skin. The recipient, can without effort look at or touch the gift as a constant reminder of the sentiment and thus the giver. Secondly, women love to discuss the gifts they receive and whereas a gift certificate for a spa day is certainly desirable, it will never replace the rush of energy and excitement that runs through her when she can lift her wrist to show-off a delicate sprinkle of tiny diamonds scattered on a gold bracelet. Women love to show-off their gifts! Lastly, jewelry – lasts. That iPhone4 will be replaced in a matter of months and even the lavish gift of a new automobile, will in time be traded in but jewelry is something that you keep, you treasure and often pass on for someone else to fall in love with.

As a final note let me add that cost is rarely the determining factor in just how truly perfect your gift of jewelry is. I have a friend who has a very covetable collection of fine jewelry and when I asked her what her most treasured piece was, she quickly responded that it was a teeny-tiny sliver of a gold band that her partner gave her with the inscription CTH+TRL. “It literally cost $90 and I never, ever take it off. It gives me a warm smile each time I look at it”, she said. So unless you know for a fact that the woman in your life is pining away for a new Vitamix or has unabashedly begged you for an iPad I personally would suggest the magical gift of jewelry.

Erncol Jewelry Shoppe is located at 4007 Concord Pike (at Silverside Road) and is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10am until 5pm with evening hours upon request.

You know your best colors; you want to look put together. Where do you start? You start in the middle and work out.

Use a belt to accentuate your waist and give you an hourglass shape. You want to create the illusion that your shoulders are the same width as your hips. If you want to be subtle and effective, use a neutral color that you can match with your shoes. If you want to go for bold, contrast the belt with your dress. An orange belt will rock a turquoise dress; a gold belt brings a jade dress to life.

Scarves are a great accessory too! When you have a magenta dress with a neutral belt, grab a bright scarf (turquoise, perhaps?) to draw the eyes upward to your face. Jewelry is the last thing to complete your look. A good rule of thumb is when you have statement earrings, be subtle with the necklace and vice versa. A great look is when you pull colors from your belt to match your earrings and/or bracelet. I don’t have time to sit down and color with crayons anymore. The crayons I use now are my earrings, necklaces, belts and scarves. I love color – it makes you feel alive. I color everyday now…happy coloring!

Kay Snelling opened Gecko Fashions, a dress & jewelry boutique on Main Street in Newark, in May of 2006. With Kay’s business-savvy expertise and friendly personality, she has created a name for Gecko in downtown Newark and enjoys working with all of her customers.

Testimonial: “Whenever I need an outfit for a special occasion, a unique gift for a friend, some retail therapy, or even some fashion advice, Gecko Fashions is my first choice! The employees are kind and helpful, everything in the store is quality merchandise, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. If someone asks me where to get nice clothing for an even nicer price, I direct them to Gecko, which is just a brief walk away. Gecko also displays avid support for breast cancer research, and as the granddaughter of a breast cancer survivor, that means a lot to me!”~ Ciarra, Gecko customer

to try the spectacular range of specialties at Saketumi in Rehoboth Beach,

off of Route 1. Saketumi, the sister restaurant of Jasmine in Wilmington, is the lower shore’s most chic restaurant.

Saketumi offers well-prepared, modern Asian cuisine;
Japanese, Chinese, Thai, and Korean.

As a soup lover, I am always impressed with the spice and freshness of Saketumi’s soups. The Thai Spicy Lemongrass Soup with Shrimp is my favorite. With bell peppers, shitake mushrooms, fine lemongrass and lime, it is a combination of flavors that will thrill your taste buds.

One of my newfound favorites at Saketumi, as well as Jasmine,
is their wonderfully priced Bento Box Specials.

A complete meal that is sure to leave you with plenty of delightful leftovers, these are offered in Thai, Chinese, Korean, or Japanese. The Thai, for instance, starts with Thai soup, followed by a complete divided tray of papaya salad, jasmine rice, spring roll, and Tom Yum Goong. What a delicious selection at a price that will keep you coming back to try all of the varieties.

If you prefer to stick with an entrée, the succulent Braised Korean Shortribs with Kimchee offer a combination of spicy and sweet that play wonderfully off of each other. Another favorite, the Rainbow Roll, has a gorgeous presentation, as does all of Saketumi & Jasmine’s sushi. The fresh tuna, salmon, and avocado topped with roe, will make you remember why you crave sushi.

Saketumi offers a fantastic Happy Hour that includes
drink specials from wine, to cocktails, to beer.

The Happy Hour special not only includes a large selection of sushi and vegetable rolls, but also tempting appetizers such as Crispy Crab Wonton. The best part is that everything is priced starting at $1.75 to $5.00 and is offered seven days a week from 4-6 pm. Now that is something you can’t afford to pass up in this economy.

An exciting edition to Saketumi that’s sure to be a hit
this spring and summer
is the new upstairs Ai Lounge and outdoor area.

What better way to enjoy their fantastic martinis such as the Flirtini, complete with raspberry puree and a splash of champagne than on their hip upstairs patio?
So be sure not to miss out on all of these wonderful offerings in the south. Make it a point to experience Saketumi on your next beach trip, because they are so much more than great sushi.

FoodEase is family owned and operated by
Cathy Hagan and Camie Bailey, former owners of
Super Suppers Wilmington.

After five years operating as franchisees with Super Suppers, we discovered our customers would prefer us to assemble their meals instead of the original Super Suppers model of, “make your own.” With that said, we are excited to announce our official changeover to FoodEase

How did we get our new name?

It’s a play on the word “foodies”. If you haven’t heard the term “Foodie” it means “people who simply love food for consumption, study, preparation, and facts about food.” That’s us … and you get the benefit by the ease of delicious ready-to-cook food! And there you have it, our new name … FoodEase – Take and Bake!!

We now have a new user-friendly web site for ordering or viewing our menu and freedom to offer a variety of new recipes! Our “take-out or eat-in” lunch menu featuring hot and cold sandwiches, soups and fresh made salads is continuing to grow and because you asked for it, we now have Wi-Fi and coffee in our cafe area.

At FoodEase, we want to help families,
couples and singles simplify one area of their lives – DINNER

We take care of the hassle that comes with shopping for and preparing your family meals.

Using only the freshest ingredients makes our chef-designed entrees healthy and delectable and contains zero trans fats. We know that everyone wants a meal “just like mom would make.” That’s why our delicious, home-cooked meals are family favorites. Now, you can spend more time with the ones you love and still put a wonderful, nutritious meal on the table.

Experts say that taking time to enjoy meals together helps families reconnect.

FoodEase makes it easier for families to sit down at the table together for dinner. All the shopping, chopping, mixing and prepping is done. All you do is cook it and enjoy your time with the family.

We even have you covered for the holidays! Choose from a wide variety of appetizers, desserts and brunch entrees to complete holiday dinners for twelve.

Sound expensive? Not compared to dining out or your weekly grocery bill. It is hard to imagine that having restaurant quality meals in your freezer can cost less than you would spend at the grocery store to buy the ingredients. But it’s true! At a time of fuel, utility and overall cost of food and living skyrocketing, FoodEase is a luxury that actually saves you money!

Our food is all made and prepared on site here in our store.

Some of the customer favorites include, Asian Flank Steak (awesome on the grill), Parmesan Chicken with Wine & Sage Sauce, Chicken Pot Pie, Crispy Apricot Pork Chops, Sunday Pork Pot Roast, Bruschetta Chicken, Heavenly Chicken, Meaty Cheesy Lasagna, Vegetarian Lasagna, Chicken & White Bean Chili, Eggplant Parmesan, Pecan Crusted Tilapia, Classic Shepherd’s Pie and Breaded Pork Chops w/Cinnamon Apples. Also available are Wheat/Gluten FREE entrees and sides. Ten to twelve new entrees are switched each month. Entrees come in three convenient sizes. Single servings, regular (3 servings) and large (6 servings)

FoodEase is not just for dinner.

Besides more than 35 different entrees to choose from daily we are stocked with many breakfast items, like Cinnamon Monkey Bread and Blueberry Cream Cheese French Toast Bake, or Strata Florentine. Some appetizer choices are Crab & Artichoke Dip, Buffalo Chicken Dip, Jalapeño Popper Dip, and Cranberry BBQ Meatballs. A selection of desserts include; Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars, Key Lime Pie, Berry Apple and Caramel Apple Crisp, Peanut Butter Cup Pie, and Country Peach Cobbler. Veggies and side dishes include Parmesan Garlic Green Beans, Asparagus w/Dill Sauce, Orzo with Grilled Vegetables, Southern Baked Mac & Cheese and lots more! And it’s all made fresh at the store!

Lunch! Bring a friend, sit and enjoy our home-made soup,
fresh to order salads or a delicious sandwich from our NEW lunch menu.

Choose from a Pretzel Grill, Turkey Reuben, Hot Roast Beef, Mozzarella Meltdown, Turkey BLT and more or choose to build your own sandwich with your choice of turkey, ham, chicken salad or tuna salad. No lunch meat used here! We cook our turkey breast, ham and roast beef in the store and cut it fresh daily for your sandwich. Our delicious chicken salad is made from all white meat chicken and our tuna salad is from white albacore tuna.

When you bring FoodEase to the table,
you know you’ll be serving a meal that not only tastes delicious but is good for your family.

Looking for something fun and interesting to do in January? Spend some time this winter learning from some of the region’s most fascinating people, through a special program hosted by the University of Delaware’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.

The South Coastal Lecture Series takes place on Wednesday mornings this January at the Delaware National Guard Training Facility in Bethany Beach. Registration is open to everyone 50 years of age or older, and their spouses of any age. Participants will select their lecture program from four history and humanities topic clusters. Special highlights include:

The Navy at Cape Henlopen – Learn about U.S. Navy presence in the Lewes area from 1898 to 1996 from Capt. Bill Manthorpe (USN Ret.).

The Tuskegee Experiment – Delaware State Legislator and retired educator Don Blakey discusses the first African American military aviators in the United States Armed Forces.

Demagoguery in Politics – Hear former CNN world affairs correspondent Ralph Begleiter discuss how politicians appeal to voters’ emotions, prejudices and expectations through propaganda.

Ernest Hemingway – The Pulitzer and Nobel Prizewinning author through his four “best” novels: The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and The Old Man and the Sea. Led by former actor/director Gary Ramage.

The Dutch and the Swedes in Colonial Delaware – Enjoy a brief survey of the arrival of the Dutch and Swedes in the Delaware Valley with history professor Mary Emily Miller.

Each Wednesday morning will feature two lectures, the first one beginning at 9 a.m., and the second at 10:30 a.m. The registration fee for the full series is $50 per person. For more information, call 302-645-4111 or visit www.lifelonglearning.udel.edu/lewes.

Registration will take place through December 12. Registrations will continue to be accepted after December 12 based on availability.

The January lectures are a program of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in Lewes, which will also be holding spring classes beginning in February, in Lewes. Highlights include basketry, art, history, literature, opera, jazz, spring birding, and an investment workshop. A catalog will be available in December at www.lifelonglearning.udel.edu/lewes.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes at the University of Delaware are membership organizations that provide opportunities for adults 50 and over to learn, teach, and travel with their peers. The only requirements for admission are interest in a continuing educational experience, support of the programs through participation, and a modest membership fee. UD’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes are located in Wilmington, Dover, and Lewes.

CAN I: Constant And Neverending Improvement

Why is our team here at Centaur Training so successful? We constantly achieve success where others have failed and when I say others I am referring to not only local but nationally, well recognized trainers also. Most of these trainers have had their rejects pass thru our doors over the last 20 years. To our delight we have been able to reconcile these relationships.

First and foremost I believe the answer to the question is our attitude. Simply put, we have a No Excuses attitude. We take Responsibility for every aspect of the training, especially the negative aspects. We absolutely refuse to be victims, or to allow our people or horses to be victims. Instead we empower them by defining the responsibilities of each of the parties involved in the training. That understanding alleviates confusion and frustration between the parties creating empathy which allows teamwork.

Our success rate at achieving our client’s goals is, in reality, a little higher than 98%, compared to other trainers we win hands down. I have noticed that failures usually include the blame game, blaming of the horse and/or their person for the failure. Centaur Training also fails, the difference is what happens next! We change it! How? C.A.N. I.?

Without a doubt, to master the horse one must master one’s self. Self mastery starts with the realization that improvement is desirable. Self mastery is only achieved by constant improvement. We just don’t try and try again, we improve then we try again. When success is finally achieved we still strive to improve upon that. We make sure we never take pride in how we do something. This allows us to easily modify what we are doing within the construct of the golden rules of equis. The No Excuses attitude is a lot easier to maintain if you realize that every problem presents an opportunity to improve.

Remind yourself that we learn the most from our mistakes. Humans really have a hard time accepting that mistakes are always part of improvement. Mistakes made by the human or the horse provide opportunities for improvement in both.

Remember the “Proof is in the Pudding”.
Always accept your horses’ feedback and do not accept excuses.
Trust me, you can do this! I know you can.

Testimonial:

I met Dean Roles during the summer of 2010. Since then, my life and my horse’s life have changed in a positive direction. I am no longer afraid to ride my once anxious, nervous, confused Tennessee Walker named Tony. Building a close and solid relationship of trust and understanding with your horse is Dean’s foremost goal. He asked me at our first meeting what I wanted to achieve with my horse. My reply was that I wanted a safe and more relaxed horse to ride. Thus began our first month of training.

When I brought Tony to Dean’s facility, I thought Tony had good ground manners. Boy was I in for a surprise. Dean informed me that Tony was the leader and I clearly was not. Dean worked with Tony for the first couple of weeks while I observed his techniques with both groundwork and riding skills. I didn’t miss a day of training…..five days a week. Then it was time for me to get up in the saddle. I was a nervous wreck with lost confidence and I am sure Tony knew it. Dean certainly did. But we worked through my fears with baby steps.

By the end of the next two weeks, I had regained my confidence and could not wait to get Tony back home and ride him in the ring. What a different horse in just four weeks…..much calmer, less anxiety, and overall just a happier horse. Winter came and went, as did summer whereby I was unable to ride due to a back injury (non-horse related). However, this past August, Dean came to our farm and my training resumed through the end of October. His techniques and ability to finesse a horse with what appears to be little effort is nothing less than amazing.

I cannot describe how happy I am that I chose Dean Roles to be my trainer. He is a confident leader in the horse arena and is teaching me to be a confident leader with Tony. If Dean were to ask you what are the two most important things you are in charge of with your horse, you would quickly reply “speed and direction.” Once you have control of those two key elements you will be on your way to a happy and safe riding experience. Thank you, Dean, for everything you have taught me and for everything you will continue to teach me. ~ Pam Nebel, Harrington, DE
