Excimer laser PRK (Photo Refractive Keratectomy) was first performed in the United States in 1987, and was subsequently approved by the FDA in 1995, all but eliminating the use of incisional radial keratotomy to correct nearsightedness. The laser is used to reshape the cornea (the clear front surface of the eye), adjusting the natural focus of the eye and reducing or eliminating the need for distance glasses.

Joseph Pilates is the founder of an exercise system originally called Contrology, a complete body conditioning workout. Pilates has become a term applied, often somewhat erroneously, to all sorts of mat exercises. In its true form, as Joseph Pilates intended, the exercise involves a body-mind connection and requires concentration and repetition, or practice. All of the exercises develop flexibility, balance, coordination, and strength.

The popularity of yoga in the west has burgeoned over the past couple of decades, and no other system of teaching has been given more credit for bringing the therapeutic benefits of yoga to the everyday student than the Iyengar Method. What is so different about this system is that the use of props such as belts, blocks, blankets and even the very wall/floor/tables and chairs at home or in an office setting can be used to help gradually open up the body. It is not uncommon that people affected by morbid obesity, defined as a body mass index of 40 or greater, also deal with obesity-related illnesses. Once a patient is considered morbidly obese, these conditions become serious health risks. These diseases also negatively impact the quality of life for obese patients and their families. In this article, I have listed common conditions affecting the obese and morbidly obese.
