“There is so much to treating the overall health and well being of a person than just addressing their symptoms when an acute illness occurs. I like to focus on what is going on with a person’s health every day. It’s the little things that are really important in the long run. What kind of nutrients we are taking in and how that affects how our bodies and minds work. Another example of how closely our minds and bodies are intertwined was demonstrated in a study that showed how a cosmetic medical treatment, such as a rhinoplasty, can have the same benefit to mood and well being as 10 years of intensive psycho-therapy. Our bodies and minds are very closely related and I really embrace this concept in my practice.”

Dr. Parsons lives in Bethany Beach area with her husband and young son, who is a fifth generation Sussex Countian. Dr. Parsons sees patients in her office in Rehoboth Beach during the week. Appointments can be made by calling 302-227-1079.
What is a Trane Comfort Specialist?

The Trane Comfort Specialist certification means the independent Trane dealer is of the highest standing and committed to being the best in every aspect of his or her business, from installation and service, to customer satisfaction and employee training. Not every dealer qualifies as a Trane Comfort Specialist, but rather only those that meet Trane’s stringent standards and demonstrate a commitment to customer satisfaction and continuing education. These dealers are committed to training to keep up to date with Trane’s latest technology, ensuring that you receive a system that is designed to achieve maximum efficiency, reliability and comfort – and a system that delivers the efficiency its ratings promise and you expect.

Many Trane Comfort Specialist dealers also have North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certified technicians. NATE is an independent, third-party non-profit certification which is earned through tests which validates the technician’s knowledge and a training program’s instruction. Organizations that are part of the NATE coalition include the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers.

With the passage of President Obama’s Economic Stimulus Bill, homeowners may be eligible for a tax credit

As a leader in producing energy-efficient home comfort solutions, Trane offers many products that are eligible under this new law. Depending on the type of system or product purchased, it is possible to qualify for a tax credit of up to $1,500 on your 2009 or 2010 income tax return or up to $500** on your 2011 income tax return. Trane also offers rebates on select systems.
It’s easy to get caught up in the magic of holidays in Delaware. Everyone seems to be in a better mood, and all of the hustle and bustle – including shopping, parties, and visiting with loved ones – makes the cold weather a little easier to bear.

Of course, making merry has its price, as travel can be especially dangerous during this time of year.

Whether you are traveling locally or planning a trip to visit friends or family out of state, it’s important to take some extra precautions when driving during the holiday season. To best avoid unpleasant situations like collisions, theft or more, follow these safety suggestions:

Perform routine maintenance. One of the easiest ways to avoid car mishaps is to drive a safe vehicle. Check and rotate your tires, get a tune-up and have your oil changed regularly, at least every six months. Keeping up with these tasks ensures that your vehicle will be in top driving condition for Delaware’s often-treacherous holiday weather.

Prepare for inclement weather. Due to the unpredictability of the East Coast’s weather conditions, it’s always a good idea to keep an emergency kit in your vehicle. Emergency kits include items that can help signal others in times of distress, make minor repairs, or help keep you protected from excessive temperatures while stalled. These kits can be purchased for as little as $30, or you can make your own. Some items that you might want to include are blankets, water, road flares and tools. For more ideas on what to include in your vehicle emergency kit, speak to your auto insurance agent or visit www.redcross.org

Drive defensively. Just as the old adage goes, sometimes the best offense is a good defense. The lack of a sales tax draws more people into Delaware during the holiday season, which means the chances for collisions increase. When driving, be on the lookout for erratic drivers, slippery roads, snowdrifts and other unusual conditions. Never drive at speeds that would prevent you from taking necessary corrective actions, particularly in the evening when hazards are more difficult to see. Also, keep your eyes on the road, as you never know what other drivers have had too much eggnog.

Don’t leave valuables in the car. When you travel, there’s a good chance that you’ll leave your vehicle unattended in places with which you’re unfamiliar. In order to avoid holiday breakins, don’t leave valuables in your car, especially in clear view of anyone who walks by. Many criminals take advantage of holiday shoppers’ generosity, and when your new purchases are visible, they make for a tempting target. If you must leave items in the car, opt to put them in the trunk, away from prying eyes.

Give a copy of your itinerary to a friend. Whether you are headed out to the mall, a party or a relative’s house, let someone know where you are going and how you intend to get there. In the event that you are in an accident, stranded or are incapacitated, your contact will know your intended route and be able to pass relevant information along to the authorities.

If you practice these safety suggestions and are still the unfortunate victim of an automobile accident this holiday season, don’t burden your holidays with the worry of how you’re going to handle the details. Instead, contact our Personal Injury Attorneys who, together with their reliable staff, will guide you through the process.

Susan D’Alonzo Ament is a partner with Morris James LLP and has practiced for 28 years representing personal injury victims. Over the years, Mrs. Ament has found that some women don’t understand the crucial need to have adequate automobile insurance coverage in the event of a serious accident. Susan Ament educates women on these needs every day in her practice and in seminars that she presents throughout the year.

Tis the holiday season once again and Downtown Wilmington is dressed the part for the month of December. Wilmington Renaissance Corporation (WRC) and its partners have worked together to enhance the festive feel of downtown, bring more holiday cheer to Market Street and make shopping easier.

WRC teamed up with the artistic students at Delaware College of Art and Design (DCAD) and Market Street merchants for part of the festive fun.

The DCAD students were paired with various merchants along Market Street to create holiday and seasonal scenes on the storefronts. The paintings range from wreaths, reindeer and Christmas trees to winter scenes of snowmen, skiing and ice skating.

Another addition to merchant storefronts is adding to the holiday cheer as well. WRC worked with local schools to coordinate a Gingerbread House Contest. Nine schools created 21 gingerbread houses that are located in storefronts and eateries along Market Street. People can walk along the Gingerbread Lane and vote on their favorite houses.

The winning gingerbread houses will win a prize for the most popular public vote. In addition, celebrity judges Dana Herbert of Cake Boss and Jennifer Behm of MasterChef will visit each of the gingerbread houses on Saturday, Dec. 17. The winners of the public vote and the celebrity judges’ vote will be revealed at 2 p.m. that day in the Copeland Room above the Delaware History Museum. A full list of gingerbread house locations is available at www.downtownwilmington.com.

If you are looking to avoid the malls for shopping and Santa, downtown has your answer as well. Santa Claus will be at the Delaware History Museum (504 N. Market St.) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, Dec. 10 and Dec. 17. Parents are welcome to bring their own cameras to capture the memories or provide an email address for pictures to be sent to them.

The “IN” discount card will make shopping even nicer in downtown Wilmington. Participating merchants will give a deal or discount to anyone who presents an “IN” card. The cards can be picked up at the merchants or the WRC office (100 W. 10th St., Suite 206). A full list of participating merchants is located at www.downtownwilmington.com. (See the sidebar for gift ideas in the downtown!).

Parking during the holiday season is a breeze as well. In addition to numerous parking garages and lots, parking meters are free after noon from Nov. 26 to Dec. 31. Parkers must adhere to parking time limits at the spaces (the majority are two hour limits).

The hustle and bustle of the holiday season doesn’t have to be a hassle. The festive atmosphere of Downtown Wilmington is sure to get everyone in the spirit!

10 Gift Ideas You Can get in Downtown Wilmington (in no particular order)

Men’s Attire – Downtown has Collars N’ Cuffs, Wright & Simon, SneakerVilla, and Dimensions & Co. which carry a variety of men’s attire from ties, suites and dress shirts to casual wear, jackets and hats. And personalize a shirt at Space Boy on the 600 Block of Market Street.

FoodEase is family owned and operated by
Cathy Hagan and Camie Bailey, former owners of
Super Suppers Wilmington.

After five years operating as franchisees with Super Suppers, we discovered our customers would prefer us to assemble their meals instead of the original Super Suppers model of, “make your own.” With that said, we are excited to announce our official changeover to FoodEase

How did we get our new name?

It’s a play on the word “foodies”. If you haven’t heard the term “Foodie” it means “people who simply love food for consumption, study, preparation, and facts about food.” That’s us … and you get the benefit by the ease of delicious ready-to-cook food! And there you have it, our new name … FoodEase – Take and Bake!!

We now have a new user-friendly web site for ordering or viewing our menu and freedom to offer a variety of new recipes! Our “take-out or eat-in” lunch menu featuring hot and cold sandwiches, soups and fresh made salads is continuing to grow and because you asked for it, we now have Wi-Fi and coffee in our cafe area.

At FoodEase, we want to help families,
couples and singles simplify one area of their lives – DINNER

We take care of the hassle that comes with shopping for and preparing your family meals.

Using only the freshest ingredients makes our chef-designed entrees healthy and delectable and contains zero trans fats. We know that everyone wants a meal “just like mom would make.” That’s why our delicious, home-cooked meals are family favorites. Now, you can spend more time with the ones you love and still put a wonderful, nutritious meal on the table.

Experts say that taking time to enjoy meals together helps families reconnect.

FoodEase makes it easier for families to sit down at the table together for dinner. All the shopping, chopping, mixing and prepping is done. All you do is cook it and enjoy your time with the family.

We even have you covered for the holidays! Choose from a wide variety of appetizers, desserts and brunch entrees to complete holiday dinners for twelve.

Sound expensive? Not compared to dining out or your weekly grocery bill. It is hard to imagine that having restaurant quality meals in your freezer can cost less than you would spend at the grocery store to buy the ingredients. But it’s true! At a time of fuel, utility and overall cost of food and living skyrocketing, FoodEase is a luxury that actually saves you money!

Our food is all made and prepared on site here in our store.

Some of the customer favorites include, Asian Flank Steak (awesome on the grill), Parmesan Chicken with Wine & Sage Sauce, Chicken Pot Pie, Crispy Apricot Pork Chops, Sunday Pork Pot Roast, Bruschetta Chicken, Heavenly Chicken, Meaty Cheesy Lasagna, Vegetarian Lasagna, Chicken & White Bean Chili, Eggplant Parmesan, Pecan Crusted Tilapia, Classic Shepherd’s Pie and Breaded Pork Chops w/Cinnamon Apples. Also available are Wheat/Gluten FREE entrees and sides. Ten to twelve new entrees are switched each month. Entrees come in three convenient sizes. Single servings, regular (3 servings) and large (6 servings)

FoodEase is not just for dinner.

Besides more than 35 different entrees to choose from daily we are stocked with many breakfast items, like Cinnamon Monkey Bread and Blueberry Cream Cheese French Toast Bake, or Strata Florentine. Some appetizer choices are Crab & Artichoke Dip, Buffalo Chicken Dip, Jalapeño Popper Dip, and Cranberry BBQ Meatballs. A selection of desserts include; Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars, Key Lime Pie, Berry Apple and Caramel Apple Crisp, Peanut Butter Cup Pie, and Country Peach Cobbler. Veggies and side dishes include Parmesan Garlic Green Beans, Asparagus w/Dill Sauce, Orzo with Grilled Vegetables, Southern Baked Mac & Cheese and lots more! And it’s all made fresh at the store!

Lunch! Bring a friend, sit and enjoy our home-made soup,
fresh to order salads or a delicious sandwich from our NEW lunch menu.

Choose from a Pretzel Grill, Turkey Reuben, Hot Roast Beef, Mozzarella Meltdown, Turkey BLT and more or choose to build your own sandwich with your choice of turkey, ham, chicken salad or tuna salad. No lunch meat used here! We cook our turkey breast, ham and roast beef in the store and cut it fresh daily for your sandwich. Our delicious chicken salad is made from all white meat chicken and our tuna salad is from white albacore tuna.

When you bring FoodEase to the table,
you know you’ll be serving a meal that not only tastes delicious but is good for your family.

As always, we truly appreciate our loyal customers and welcome our new ones. Our hope is to make your mealtime more enjoyable, easier, healthier and tastier.

The Court Appointed Special Advocate Program (CASA) of the Family Court is expanding its efforts to represent the interests of abused and neglected children in court. The program is seeking qualified adults to serve as CASA volunteers.

The Court Appointed Special Advocate Program (CASA) of the Family Court is expanding its efforts to represent the interests of abused and neglected children in court.
The program is seeking qualified adults to serve as CASA volunteers.

CASA volunteers are trained members of the community who are appointed by Family Court Judges to speak up for the best interests of abused and neglected children in Court proceedings. As an official of the Court, the CASA volunteer conducts an independent investigation into the child’s life and provides information and recommendations to the judge in the case. CASA volunteers work with attorneys, social workers, and family members to attain the goal of a safe and permanent home for each child.

CASA volunteers have varied professional, educational, and ethnic backgrounds. They are selected on the basis of their objectivity, competence and commitment. Each volunteer accepted into the program must complete five days of initial training. Casework supervision is provided by full time Program Coordinators from the Family Court staff. Program attorneys provide legal advice and represent the CASA in court proceedings.

In the last year, CASA volunteers served over 600 children in Delaware. Yet, many of Delaware’s abused and neglected children still have no independent voice in court.

The problems of child abuse and neglect belong to all of us.
Be part of the solution. Be a CASA volunteer.

Family Court at 302-255-0461.

Director of Admissions, Saint Mark’s High School
ckwasnieski@stmarkshs.net

The joy and cheer of the Advent and Christmas seasons often inspire people to share their talents and time with others. At Saint Mark’s High School, students enthusiastically join the wider community in this spirit of giving—

from the Stockings for Soldiers assembled by the girls’ soccer team to the hundreds of canned goods collected by Z-Club. As Spartans, however, the call to service is not only heeded during the Christmas holiday, but approached as a yearlong commitment.

Saint Mark’s is a Diocesan Catholic high school that educates young men and women to be leaders of the church and the world whose faith in God and service to others model excellence, humility, and integrity. As an integral part of the school’s mission, service at Saint Mark’s has a long tradition of excellence. In fact, in 1985, Saint Mark’s became the first high school in the state to host a blood drive, and in 1983, Saint Mark’s pioneered Blue-Gold—a club that encourages meaningful relationships between high school students and local teenagers with intellectual disabilities. With several service clubs on campus—including Key Club, an active Student Council, and National Honor Society—Saint Mark’s students continue to log thousands of volunteer hours each year.

“Our strongest asset is the commitment our students show toward loving their neighbor,” said Joan McConnell, who teaches Spanish and also moderates Key Club. “Almost every organization on campus has a service component, whether it’s the football team washing dishes at West Presbyterian Church soup kitchen or Pax Christi working with the residents at the Mary Campbell Center. All of our clubs not only give students the opportunity to make a difference in the community, but to also show their love of God through service to their neighbor,” she continued.

Saint Mark’s High School exists not just to provide outstanding academic and co-curricular programs, but to form young adults into disciples of Christ—disciples who hear and respond to Christ’s call to transform their lives and, ultimately, the world. Just as Saint Mark’s students respond to the call of service, Spartan graduates also continue to follow the challenge Bishop Michael Hyle posed to the first graduating class: “Go forth from this school to create a better world, one more pleasing to God and more helpful to mankind.”

What Our Graduates Say:

“My time at Saint Mark’s grounded me in important values and beliefs that I still carry with me today. I valued my time with Key Club, and I am thankful for the great opportunities that Saint Mark’s offered during my four years there.” ~ Autumn Lynch ‘05, intern at the U.S. Department of State in the Bureau of International Organization Affairs

“Saint Mark’s gave me a solid foundation. It was important to me that I got a well-rounded education that not only integrated academics and sports, but that also included an emphasis on building the community.” ~ Bill Purcell ‘82, Associate Director of Catholic Social Tradition at the University of Notre Dame

“My time at Saint Mark’s and the truly excellent education I received there formed a strong foundation for my life as a scholar and as a person trying to live ethically in the world.” ~ Lisa Toccafondi Shutt ‘92, Director of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Virginia
