What are eyelash extensions?

The extensions themselves are perfectly polished polyester points. They come in a variety of thicknesses, colors and degrees of curl. There are various brands on the market as well as types of lashes. A lash artist can determine the best “lashscape” for your lifestyle and special occasion.

How long do they last?

Your lash extensions, when properly applied, will last as long as your natural lash is attached to you. Some will pop off, but with a good adhesive and technique you’ll be able to enjoy your lashes through your honeymoon. Our natural lashes shed about 3 to 4 lashes a day.  If an extension is attached, it will fall off with your natural lash. So…if you get a set applied and care for them delicately, you will still have lashes left in 3, 4 even 5 weeks. To keep your lashes looking fresh, Lasting Looks recommends refining fills every 2 to 4 weeks.

I was told to ask for Novalash (or Xtreme Lash, or 3D Lash).  Why is that?

Novalash, Xtreme Lash and 3D Lash are brand names. They are also training companies and lash supply companies. While training and supplies from these companies are very good it really comes down to the knowledge, skill and talent of the lash technician.

How long does it take to apply the lashes?

Your appointment time depends on how many lashes you are getting. At Lasting Looks, we like to keep eyelash extensions affordable for all budgets.Therefore, we offer different size sets:  Wink, Demi and Full. A Wink Set is 20 to 25 lashes per eye; about 45 minutes.  A Demi Set is 40 to 60 lashes per eye; about 60 to 75 minutes. A Full Set is 70 to 100 lashes per eye; 90 to 120 minutes. Set sizes are not universal and can be independently defined by a salon. Be sure to ask about the number of lashes you are getting when you are booking your appointment.

Being in this business as long as I have, I’ve heard my share of horror stories about caterers cutting corners, later charging hidden costs, or staff clashing with location staff.

This business is incredibly competitive and believe me caterers are counting on your limited knowledge of exactly how we operate. Let me lift the napkin for you.

Fresh vs. Frozen ~ ALWAYS taste test your menu. You may pay a small fee for the opportunity, but better to find out now whether the chicken breast you’ve chosen will be fresh or thawed. Believe me, they taste different. Just because someone you know liked the food a year ago, doesn’t mean the same chef is still working at that establishment. This is your special day you should like the food they are serving.

Chinet vs. China ~ Does it really make a difference? Not if you have a great caterer! If guests are going to remember something it’s not going to be your china pattern, it will be the rubbery chicken! Review your catering package closely and if you’re on a budget, this is where you can afford to skimp. A well connected and knowledgeable caterer has access to plastic ware and plates that look just like china and at half the cost of the real thing.

Have It Your Way ~ This is your special day, so make sure you get what you want. You should interview companies until you find one that agrees to personalize your menu. With food allergies these days, there are so many dietary needs to consider. A good caterer will accommodate all your needs. Consider children attending the reception, will your caterer provide child-friendly options. PBJ and Filet? Why not?

Location, Location, Location; is not just for Real Estate ~
More than likely you’ve often dreamt of your wedding day way before your thoughts turned to selecting a caterer. The setting is important from many aspects; the décor and accessibility and can they accommodate all your guests. It is important to consider whether your caterer can accommodate your every need on-site (whether an indoor or outdoor wedding) but, MORE IMPORTANTLY, you need to learn about whether your caterer has a good relationship with the location. The last thing you need the day of the wedding is conflict between the reception site and your caterer.

The Biggie: Hidden Costs ~
Read your contract closely. Let me say that again READ YOUR CONTACT CLOSELY.  Is gratuity included? Is there a room fee? Are there charges for set-up and/or clean-up? Did you take copious notes during your conversation with the caterer; refer back to those notes before you sign anything. Double check your package, is everything you want included? There may be an up-grade charge for certain items. Remember, no matter how large or small the company they may not remember all the little details that aren’t so little to you a year later.

This facility is part of the Woodloch Pines Resort – Hawley, PA. I have just returned from a wonderful 3 days at The Lodge at Woodloch Spa. This is one Destination Spa you definitely want to experience. Please note that this Spa caters to both men and women. Knowing that, I convinced my husband to join me. We both were pleasantly surprised to find that we were not the only couples there. This location was a wonderful respite from the city, the kids, work and all else that occupies your mind.

Upon arrival, I knew this was going to be a wonderful experience. The first thing I noticed was that ALL staff members (from the front gate to house keeping) were very warm, courteous, and made you feel that no request was too big or to small. Oh did I mention, valet parking. The Rooms were comfortable with marble bathrooms and balconies with a view.

The Dining experience (all meals included with your stay) – delicious, healthy, well done. I actually slowed down to savor every bite. Oh, and the deserts were great too. I must mention Robin and her team added to the experience.

Activities – outdoor (e.g., hiking, walking, kayaking) or indoor (e.g., exercise and art classes, cooking demonstrations, invited speakers, and wine tasting). You also have access to their signature golf course.

The variety and quality of classes coupled with great instructors were excellent.

While there, Jeanne Herrmann- Golf & Spa Sales Mgr., gave me a tour of the entire Woodloch Pines Resort property and shared their history, vision and growth of the many facilities that encompass the Woodloch Resort.They have recently added a new entertainment theater with Off-Broadway type theme shows that we truly enjoyed.

The Spa – Has everything you could think of and more. In addition to being a 5 star facility, there is an outdoor horizon whirlpool looking out over a forested area and a two-tiered waterfall whirlpool near the glassed-in indoor pool. Tip: the indoor waterfall was great as a quick shoulder massage.

The Lodge at Woodloch Spa was a great getaway and a memorable experience. Who would have thought this was so close to home. For further information on this location or if you would like to plan a girlfriend getaway, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

I continually strive to remove the mystery from bridal gown shopping.

Again, honesty is key to a positive relationship and the foundation that we build on with our clients. I always want our customers to have a pleasurable experience, feel comfortable and ultimately find the gown of their dreams. The unfortunate reality is that there is a lot out there and it can be beyond confusing.  There are several bridal magazines available with gorgeous, leggy models flashing their pearly whites and looking fantastic. Naturally, a lot of our clients bring in clippings of gowns from magazines. They lay them out and casually say, “I’m not really sure how they would look on me.” Truthfully, magazines can be deceiving and so it is very important to try on as many different styles as possible. The one you LOVE in a magazine may not seem so great once you see yourself in it and vice versa. That is where the honesty of your mother or a trusted friend is needed.

There are basically four body types/shapes:

pear, rectangle, triangle and hourglass. When you start taking a closer look, you will find that most women are pear shaped and A-line gowns are the most flattering (most super models are triangle shaped). To determine your body shape, look straight ahead in the mirror and draw an imaginary line from the widest part of your shoulders to the widest part of your hips. Is it a straight line or are your hips wider than your shoulders or vice versa? Then look at your waist. How far from your imaginary line is the narrowest point of your waist? It is obvious that within these 4 categories there is massive variation. You could be thin or a bit heavier pear shape, a small framed or large framed rectangle or a very tall or very petite hourglass and so on.

Pear Shaped: This is the most common shape. Hips are usually wider than shoulders and the waist is well defined. Strapless, sweetheart necklines, and A-line and modified A-line skirts work well. Ruching or draping is good here. Waist embellishment is also a plus like a sash or a belt. Try to avoid bias or straight cut styles with no waist and mermaids are really tough for pear shapes.

Triangle Shaped: Really an inverted triangle where the shoulders are wider than the hips. Bias or straight cut styles can look very sophisticated and full ball gowns look great on these girls. Ruching or draping is good here. Stay away from a low neckline that can make you seem long and all top from the neck to the bust.

Rectangle Shaped: Here the hips and shoulders are about the same width and there is not much waist definition. Empire styles work especially well here as do bias cuts if you are particularly tall. Ruching or draping is good here Avoid halter or high necks that make shoulders seem narrow and as a result don’t flatter the waist. Straight cut dresses can make you look boxy and should be avoided.

Hourglass Shaped: Think Marilyn Monroe! Strapless, V-neck and low cut styles work well. Modifies A-line and A-line skirts work well as do mermaid styles. Ruching or draping is good here. Avoid bias or straight cut gowns that don’t do anything for an hourglass shape and empire styles will hide your best features.

Since 1999, spas and laser centers seemed to have popped up on every corner!  Even family physicians and dentists are capitalizing on the aesthetic bandwagon.   Everyone seems to want to get in on this booming business.  Unfortunately, not all skin care professionals are created equal.  I have had clients come to me who were treated by inexperienced physicians, aestheticians or laser technicians who have caused skin damage and permanent scarring.

It’s not unusual for an aesthetician that works in a plastic surgeon’s office or dermatologist’s office have no more training or have any more experience than an aesthetician that works in a hair salon.    Many skin care providers are performing laser services in doctor’s offices without having the proper certifications.  An RN may be performing skin care procedures in a doctor’s office without having the proper training in skin care as a licensed aesthetician.   RN’s are also required to get proper certifications on lasers, dermal fillers and Botox.   As with any medical procedure, proper training and experience is critical.    I can’t tell you how many new clients have come to me dissatisfied with their skin and laser treatments after spending excessive amounts of money.

Such procedures as “lunch time peels” laser hair removal, skin tightening/skin rejuvenation lasers, light treatments such as intense pulse light (which treat brown pigment and vascular lesions) can take several treatments to reach a desired goal.    If you cannot afford to commit to the multiple treatments, most likely you will not be happy with the results.   Many providers offer pre-paid packages which can save you money.

Medical skin care procedures including dermal fillers, Botox and medical grade products are not cheap.  The doctor, nurse, or aesthetician you choose for your services should possess the knowledge and should take the needed time to educate you so that your expectations are met.  If you feel rushed with your provider chances are you will not be happy with your results.   As a consumer, it is also your responsibility to ask questions and become educated about the services you are requesting.

Even providers with years of experience and proper training can error.   There are risks and complications in aesthetic procedures as there are in any medical procedure.  However, if you find a provider who has the experience and training and is willing to take the time to spend with you…. these risks can be minimized.   Your procedure can be a positive life changing experience!

Skin care is my passion, not just a job.  I arrived at a career in skin care after spending 20+ years of RN experience with a clinical specialty in wound care. As a visiting nurse, combined with my love of being around people and healing skin, I feel fortunate to have found a path that is so well suited to who I am.

Thirteen years ago I furthered my education and graduated from a school of aesthetics.  This, coupled with my nursing background, I feIt put me on the perfect path to begin my journey.  I am now certified on many aesthetic lasers; Botox, Dysport, Dermal fillers~Perlane, Restylane, Radiasse, Juvaderm, also, medical microdermabrasion, medical grade facial peels along with the use of pharmaceutical grade products.

My work experience has been with dermatologists and plastic surgeons.  In 2007, I launched, managed and directed the medical aesthetic program for Brandywine Cosmetic Surgery in Wilmington, Delaware. Through this experience, and the independence allowed me, the next step on my journey was to open Lynn Victoria Cosmetic and Medical Skin Care.  I look forward to meeting  you and working with your skin to make it look its very best.
