When I first tried to meditate 17 years ago with the guidance of my friend and dance instructor Nicole, I struggled. I felt like I wasn’t doing it correctly, like it was too hard, like I didn’t have the patience.

Years later I revisited meditation, studying teachings in many different traditions of meditation. It was then that I realized that meditation doesn’t have to be hard. In fact, it is quite the opposite. Meditation is easy when approached properly.

Since I began teaching meditation 8 years ago, it is not uncommon for me to hear shock and pleasant surprise from my students at how simple meditation actually is. Mindfulness and meditation, combined with movement, are an essential part of my lifestyle, and enable me to feel peaceful, alive, and centered. Quite literally they have changed my life. I began teaching yoga and meditation because of this impact on my life. There was a direct correlation between when I began to meditate regularly and the flow of ease in my life. I needed to share how simple this is with others. I now teach meditation to individuals and groups in a simple format that takes less than an hour to learn.

Organizations like Transcendental Meditation and Universities have conducted numerous studies on the effects of meditation over the years. Scientific studies show evidence that meditation reduces anxiety, depression, and pain. The evidence is clear that regular meditation practice results in dramatic life changes physiologically and psychologically.*

Physical benefits of meditation:

  • Increases blood flow to the brain
  • Reduces Cortisol
  • Reduces blood pressure and hypertension
  • Lowers cholesterol levels
  • Increases production of serotonin and dopamine
  • Boosts the Immune System
  • Muscle Relaxation
  • Slows the aging process

Psychological benefits of meditation:

  • Reduces anxiety and depression
  • Increases stress resilience
  • Increases focus and awareness
  • Increases emotional stability and intelligence
  • Increases your capacity to learn

The reason that spurs each person to meditate may be vastly different, but with regular practice, anyone can receive profound benefits physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
