Neck pain has been researched much less
in comparison to lower back pain.

The neck is susceptible to injury partially due to biomechanics. Some things that affect cervical biomechanics are: sitting for long periods of time, accidents, repetitive movement, aging, and normal wear and tear. Most patients who come to our office have tried many of the typical treatments for neck pain, i.e. injections, physical therapy, etc. The symptoms may typically persist for a couple of weeks to many months. I always instruct patients that if they have neck pain for 7-10 days and it is not getting better, to seek treatment.

Causes of neck pain:
•  Trauma or injury
•  Worry and stress
•  Falling asleep in a awkward position
•  Prolonged use of a computer keyboard

Treatment of neck pain:
•  Chiropractic treatment
•  Massage therapy
•  Muscle training
•  Physiotherapy, including advice on posture and the use of a supportive pillow

Prevention of neck pain:
•  Exercise program to strengthen neck muscles
•  Stretching neck muscles

One of the most effective and safest treatments
that continues to perform well, when studied,
is manipulation practiced mostly by chiropractors.

A neck adjustment/manipulation is a precise procedure applied to the joints of the neck, usually done by hand. The March/April 2007 issue of the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics published a review where the researchers reviewed nine previously published trials and found “high-quality evidence” that patients with chronic neck pain showed significant pain-level improvements following spinal manipulation.

Testimonials:
“I suffered from constant headaches, neck and back pain after my accident. I tried the usual prescribed treatments, but only became frustrated. A family member recommended Dr. Yacucci at Colonial Wellness. His gentle approach was very helpful and after a few weeks of treatment, my pain decreased significantly. I’ve become more active and I’m regaining my life back. Thanks Dr. Greg!”     ~ J.S., Bear, DE

“Dr. Yacucci has been my chiropractor for many years. I have suffered with migraines since I was a teenager and I wasn’t aware that chiropractic care would help alleviate the migraines. So when I started care with him I told him about suffering from migraines and having to take medications all the time for them. He started adjusting me and sure enough my migraines began to ease up. The frequency of my headaches, in the beginning, was four to six times a month; now they are maybe once a month or every other month. I am so glad to have relief from those debilitating headaches. Thanks Dr. Yacucci!”     ~ J.L., New Castle, DE
