Each year, college admission standards become more rigorous,…
challenging schools to select their candidates based on a wide variety
of criteria. Faced with a large number of applications, college and university admissions staff increasingly weigh a scholar’s extracurricular involvement in addition to his or her academic achievements when deciding whether a prospect would be a good fit for their institution. With 98% of graduates pursuing higher education and more than $8 million in scholarships and grants, Saint Mark’s High School has proven it provides an educational experience that prepares students for the next step in their careers.
At Saint Mark’s, students have the opportunity to participate
in more than 100 clubs, service organizations, and athletic teams,…
allowing them to not only become involved in the community, but assume
leadership positions as well. While a strong academic foundation remains at the forefront of the school’s mission—offering five academic phases to meet the needs of each student; 22 Advanced Placement courses; a Socratic seminar for highly motivated learners; and an optional program for students of all abilities with learning differences and/or ADD―teachers, administrators, coaches and moderators are committed to the important role extracurricular activities play in the high school experience.
Whether students want to explore concepts outside the classroom…
by joining Mock Trial, Model UN or Math League—clubs that challenge teams throughout the state as well as at national conferences—or foster their creativity through involvement in an award-winning literary magazine or digital newspaper launchi
ng this fall, Saint Mark’s affords the chance to delve deeper into a long-held interest or to try something completely new. And, as always, service remains at the heart of the Saint Mark’s experience. With several service organizations, including an active Student Council and the largest and most established Blue-Gold Friendship Program in the state, students are able to make a difference in their communities through hands-on activities varying from volunteering at local shelters to planning outings with teenagers with intellectual disabilities to participating at the Wilmington Flower Market.
