Choosing the right high school can be a
daunting task for both students and parents.
While there are many aspects for a family to consider when selecting the right fit, as current St. Mark’s parent Bethann Dunn-Deveney explained, in many households the decision ultimately rests with the child.
“Our daughter only wanted to attend two open houses. Both my son and I are graduates of St. Mark’s, so for us it was a ‘no-brainer;’ however, Madeline decided on the other school,” Dunn-Deveney said. “By the second semester of her freshman year, our daughter decided that her school experience may be better served at St. Mark’s,” she continued.
With a co-educational program that features five distinct academic levels,
Delaware’s largest Advanced Placement program,
and more than 100 service organizations, clubs and athletic teams,
St. Mark’s affords students opportunities that they may not encounter in smaller or vocational schools.
“High school should be a time of exploration when students are discovering their talents and interests,” explained Director of Admissions Clarice Kwasnieski. “Few students know what they want to be when they grow-up so we provide a wide variety of classes, giving students the chance to delve into subjects that peak their curiosity.”
In addition to offering a diversified curriculum, St. Mark’s remains one of the most affordable private or Catholic high schools in the area, and is committed to helping parents afford an outstanding education for their children. For the 2011-2012 school year, nearly $1.5 million in need-based tuition assistance and academic scholarships will be offered.
“St. Mark’s ensures that every student can find their niche and offers them every opportunity to be involved a little or a lot,” Dunn-Deveney said. “I am proud to be a Spartan, and prouder still to be a Spartan mom!”

What Our Parents Say:
“Transferring to St. Mark’s has been the best decision we have made for our son’s education and future. Being happy is essential in life and we can tell every day the impact that transferring to St. Mark’s has had on his life and ours. St. Mark’s makes it clear that developing and educating our children is a joint venture between the faculty and parents.” ~Norma Ortiz
“Our son transferred to St. Mark’s primarily because he felt like his former high school was too small. I believe now he has a better appreciation of how to prepare for college. It was a great move for him to transfer—he is a happy young man.” ~ Mark Schneider
