In choosing an in-home non-medical caregiver there are some very important things to keep in mind. First off is a complete background check completed on any caregiver that is going to be coming in to your home or the home of your loved one.   The following is just a brief list of some of the items that you should be insisting on having answers to before you hire any in home caregiver:

1.    Do they do Criminal records checks?
2.    After you have had an initial telephone interview with the company; You should insist on a face to face interview with a specially trained coordinator.
3.    Find out if they do an expert evaluation of practical skills, literacy, integrity and personality.
4.    Find out if they do a comprehensive assessment of at least four references.
5.    Will they be able to do initial and ongoing home visits if needed?
6.    Are they flexible to fit your needs?
7.    Do they customize to your needs?
8.    Ask what their routine is in doing follow-up to ensure continuing client satisfaction…Peace of Mind for you.

The following are just a few of the things that a great in-home caregiver should be able to provide for you:  Caregivers should be able to help people where and when they most need assistance, including supportive personal care.

1.     Bathing and dressing
2.     Continence Care
3.     Ambulation and transfers
4.     Medication Reminders
5.     Light housekeeping
6.     Cooking and Meal preparation
7.     Transportation, shopping, and errands
