an Historic Open House Tour
on Saturday, September 18 at 2:00pm

Dating back to 1802, this historic mansion was the residency of Dr. James Tilton, a prominent Delaware citizen and Revolutionary War hero who crossed the Delaware River with George Washington.  Dr. Tilton designed and constructed a two-story stone home on the land of the present day building of the University and Whist Club on 805 N. Broom Street. This location was selected as a proposed site for the Capital of the United States.RoomA_1

In 1799, Dr. Tilton was elected the first president of the Medical Society of Delaware and was previously elected as Surgeon General of the 13 colonies.
