As June heats up, the festival scene in Wilmington, DE gets into full swing! The summer months bring music, ethnic, cultural, and food festivals to the streets of the city, adding to the already vibrant scene in Wilmington.
The first festival on the docket is the Greek Festival on June 1 through 4 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. The festival celebrates the food and music of the culture in a cozy setting next to the church. It’s a perfect start to the warm weather season. Visit: http://www.holytrinitywilmington.org/greekfestival for more details.
Following the week after is one of Wilmington’s largest cultural festivals—St. Anthony’s Italian Festival from June 6 to 13. The grounds surrounding the church will be full of genuine Italian music, Italian food, Italian games and Italian memorabilia! In addition, the festival offers contemporary music, a Midway with rides, and an array of goodies. For more information, visit: www.stanthonysfestival.com.
The City of Wilmington will once again bring jazz greats from around the world to downtown Wilmington in Rodney Square for the DuPont Clifford Brown Jazz Festival from June 14 to 20. The festival is a free, week-long, outdoor music festival celebrating the many talents in the jazz world. For details on the schedule and artists, visit: www.cliffordbrownjazzfest.com.
The summer months would not be complete without the return of the CityLife Block Party Series! The series has quickly become a favorite way for attendees to kick off their heels, loosen their ties and enjoy great music and great food in a great location.
“We are so glad we are able to bring the CityLife Block Party Series downtown again this summer,” said Carrie W. Gray, managing director of Wilmington Renaissance Corporation. “People really look forward to the after work parties and really get a chance to see how exciting the city is after 5 p.m.”
The series will once again be held in the Plaza at City Center (11th and Tatnall Streets) from 5 to 9 p.m. Downtown restaurants will offer up outside dishes and beer and wine will be available as well. The musical line up will range from blues to funk to everyone’s favorite cover band. For details, visit: www.dowtownwilmington.com.
Wilmington Renaissance Corporation is also adding two new events to the mix. A Soapbox Derby will be held downtown on King Street on Saturday, June 26. This event will team companies up with youth racers and will feature a street festival type atmosphere.

The second new event is an arts festival in the city’s newest park—Cool Springs Reservoir Park. The event, Cool Spring Art in the Park, will feature quality artists, music and various celebrations of the arts. For more details on both, check: www.dowtownwilmington.com.
