Why is it that what often seems like our most complicated and difficult times can actually turn into a rare opportunity for REINVENTION? Think of a time when a setback in your own life actually laid the foundation for future success.

There is no hiding from the current instability in our country. Everywhere we look the evidence suggests that something of worldwide significance is going on. We are surrounded by a struggling economy where anxiety has taken hold; but in spite of the pessimism that surrounds us, there will be a time in our country when things will make sense again.
It is times like these that OPTIMISM and INNOVATION need to prevail. Change brings people together just as often as it tears them apart. Change is at least
as much about HOPE as it about FEAR.

I started my company, Design Services, Ltd., in the early 1980s when the healthcare design industry was also impacted by the economic downturn.  These difficult economic times provided rare opportunities for innovation and creativity in design leading to explosive growth in the healthcare design industry for the past two decades.

Today, healthcare designers have the ability to make informed design decisions based on comprehensive databases of research. Evidence-based design is just one example of a major change in our industry resultant from innovation during difficult times.

Uncertainty and change inspires partnership, collaboration, growth and opportunity. Change also inspires innovation and reinvention.
It is because of this crisis we have been empowered more than in any time in recent history to discover the instincts within us that will not only help us to survive, but also allow us to thrive in years to come.

Rita Wilkins, President
Rita is the President of Design Services, Ltd., as well as principal designer and project manager. With over 35 years of experience in design and management, her approach to design is both aesthetic and business-like. She is known to be a highly effective “hands-on” designer with extensive knowledge and expertise in dental, medical and commercial interiors.

She is a graduate of University of Rhode Island, attended Rhode Island School of Design and University of North Carolina. Having received numerous design awards, she has been published in a variety of national publications and is currently writing a book on using design as a business strategy.
