Did You Know . . .? Vital Clues of Impending Fertility Challenges (Part Two)

Did you know that one in 7 couples in the U.S. has significant fertility challenges? Did you know that infertility is usually caused by more than one factor, affecting both men and women? Did you know that a history of miscarriage and infertility are often related? Did you know that a relatively simple fertility challenge survey (please visit www.wjfertility.com) can provide incredible insight into why many women and men have infertility? Here is some information we have learned after reviewing hundreds of surveys, listening carefully to our patients, and evaluating women and men for their fertility challenges:
1. Did you know . . . the majority of infertile women with painful menstrual cycles have endometriosis, a disease that is now an epidemic in our community and society? Fortunately, excellent treatments exist that can rid women of pain and restore their fertility. However, time is of the essence.
2. Did you know . . . male infertility usually has no symptoms? A simple, confidential, and inexpensive sperm analysis test can reveal several important fertility problems. And if necessary, a referral to
an experienced male fertility specialist
can be offered.
3. Did you know . . . there is really no such thing as ‘unexplained’ infertility? If the right questions are asked, and the right testing is done, it is extremely rare to have no explanation for infertility or subsequently unsuccessful treatments.
4. Did you know . . . most of our patients did NOT wait extra months or years for a referral from their gynecologist? Our four physicians are fellowship-trained, Board-certified subspecialists in reproductive endocrinology and infertility and have a very different approach to the treatment of infertility.
5. Did you know . . . a 1992 federal law was passed to protect infertility patients and requires all IVF clinics in the U.S. to report their results to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)? The most recent official results for IVF clinics, along with national averages, can be found at www.sart.org.
