Let’s Go Back to the Basics and Practice Safe Driving
On any given day and at any given time as you are traveling on the road, you see women doing things that never used to happen while driving. They are:
• Speeding – what happened to the men being the more aggressive drivers?
• Putting on make up – suppose you get something in your eye?
• Talking on the telephone – what if you get excited or upset about something?
• Text messaging – don’t you have to look down at the keys on the phone to push the right letters for the message?
• Fooling with the radio – looking down at the panel instead of straight ahead at the road!
• Reaching for things in the floor and handing things to the children in the back seat of the car while you’re driving!
• Looking at men that happen to catch your eye – stay focused! He won’t look as good if you run into him!
• Smoking – dropping the cigarette in your lap!
• Eating food and drinking beverages while driving – how do you handle dropping hot food and a hot beverage in your lap?
These are all distractions on the road. Every time one of the above-referenced actions is committed there is the potential for an accident to happen and for someone to possibly be injured. Every once in a while, we all fall prey to some kind of distraction while driving, but it’s time for us to become, again, conscious of our actions and those around us. Remember that you are not the only person on the road. You have drivers in front of you, behind you, and possibly on both sides of you. You can’t afford to be swerving all over the roadway while you’re putting on makeup and yelling at the kids.
Insurance carriers desire to give lower rates to safe drivers but that can be impossible for you if you don’t change your driving habits. Having one accident could potentially cost you a safe driving discount that could add 10 to 15% of premium back to your policy because of your inattentiveness. It can take you up to three years to earn that discount back with some companies. The distractions are not worth the extra money you have to pay because of bad habits that have been developed. It’s time to start getting up early enough in the morning to put your makeup on before you leave home, have your breakfast, and leave early enough so that you don’t have to speed on the road. If you want to maximize all of your discounts with your insurance carrier, avoid accidents, stop speeding, and take a defensive driving course to refresh your memory on driving defensively. Not only do you have to be conscious of your own driving habits but of others on the road as well. You only have control of yourself and your actions.
Call your insurance carrier to discuss discounts you may be eligible for based on your good driving record or contact our office TODAY for a Good Hands Coverage Checkup or quote.
