Why Aren’t These Exercises Working?

By: Lori Copes
Are you one of the many who have asked, “Why aren’t these exercises working?” Not an uncommon question, especially if you are trying to get in shape following those holiday parties!
The first month of exercising is the hardest. You want to see results immediately and if you don’t, you figure this isn’t working and stop exercising. Don’t give up – Stay focused! Here are some motivational tips to help keep you going:
*Keep a mental picture of yourself at your goal weight and size.
*Concentrate on the positives that are occurring! Whether it is more flexibility or strength, feeling less stressed or even being able to sleep better at night. The rest will follow in time. Keep in mind the process will be a lot slower if you do not eat balanced healthy meals.
*Write down all your goals and look at them every day.
*Reward yourself each time a goal is achieved (with non-edible rewards). For instance, buy a new outfit, go to a play, purchase tickets to a sports game, or simply take a day off and relax!
*Variety is good! Choose a couple of different activities you enjoy and incorporate them into your schedule. A few to choose from are: resistance training, jogging, hiking, and dancing.
*Exercise to inspirational music or while watching TV., it’s amazing how fast the time will pass (but remember to pay attention to the exercise you are performing)!
*Find a Personal Trainer/Friend that will help to motivate, encourage and keep the exercises fun!
It takes a lot of hard work and commitment on your part, but if you are determined you are bound to reach your goals!
