Every week we work with outstanding professional women, and with this issue we have decided to do our part in spotlighting some of these fascinating women. In the future months we will be doing more profiling of women from different walks of life.

Dr. Gail Wynn was born in Oakland, California and grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. In 1995 she moved to Delaware to do her surgical residency at the Medical Center of Delaware. After completing her residency she married Richard Wynn and they have 3 daughters; Josette who is 5, Sophia is 3 and Mia is 1.

Dr. Wynn is a general surgeon who works for the Christiana Institute of Advanced Surgery, PA (CHRIAS), a surgical group that specializes in bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery), and minimally invasive advanced laparoscopic surgery of the abdomen. She is the medical director of bariatric surgery at St. Francis Hospital and performs over 250 weight loss surgeries a year. Her other specialties include laparoscopic hernia repairs, colon surgery, and anti reflux surgery for the treatment of GERD.

Finding the balance between being a mom, wife, and surgeon is a challenge that she looks forward to daily.

Dr. Kathryn Stoltzfus graduated from the University of Liverpool Veterinary School in 1994, with an intercalated degree in pharmacology.

For the last 4 years she was an associate veterinarian at Windcrest Animal Hospital and in July of this year took over as chief of staff at Talleyville Veterinary Hospital. She believes in the strong human-animal bond that exists with our family pets and provides high level medical and surgical care for them. She has served on the board for the Delaware Veterinary Medical Association and volunteered for the American Association of Feline Practitioners newsletter. She is an active member in many professional associations and enjoys collaboration with national and international colleagues.

When she is not working, she volunteers her time at Faithful Friends, where she helps with the medical care of the abandoned/stray animals and is particularly active in The Pit Stop – an education, outreach and intervention program for Delaware’s pit bull population. Earlier this year she spent 2 months in the Himalayas volunteering in SARAH – a rabies vaccination/spay-neuter project with Vets Beyond Borders. This project is aimed at controlling the stray dog population and decreasing the rabies incidence in the animal and human population.

She shares her home with husband, Dave, three dogs (Rudy, Fongo and Jack), her cat (Muffin) and Luscious (a zebra finch). She trains in Tae Kwon Do – holding the rank of 3rd degree black belt, enjoys running, biking and skiing. To relax she likes good food and a great bottle of Bordeaux.

Dr. Grace Goracci has been a practicing Gastroenterologist with offices in Newark and Hockessin, Delaware for the past four years. Before she moved to this area, she had a practice in Elmira, New York for twelve years. She was born and raised in South Jersey and attended Jefferson Medical College and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia for medical school and her Internal Medicine Residency, respectively. Her Gastroenterology Fellowship was done at the Combined NIH-Georgetown-Washington VA Program in Bethesda, Maryland.
Dr. Goracci enjoys working with people and helping them to understand their specific gastrointestinal issues. She is a caring, compassionate physician who encourages her patients to ask questions so that they can clearly understand their concerns and make better informed decisions about their care.

Presently residing in West Grove, Pennsylvania with her two teenage children.

Tammy Wang is a successful entrepreneur of two trendy, Asian theme restaurants named Jasmine in Wilmington and Saketumi in Rehoboth Beach. Both restaurants serve sushi and mix Asian cuisine like Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese. Her goal is to offer you the opportunity to enjoy different types of food all under one roof!

Tammy began her career in the hospitality industry at the early age of twenty. Managing her father’s restaurant in Pennsylvania, after she went to Drexel University for Civil Engineering, she found she had a passion for the restaurant business. She managed her father’s restaurant, learning and experiencing all aspects of managing a restaurant business. In 2003, she finally decided she wanted to open her own business where she could contribute all her ideas from designing the restaurant to the details of the menu items. Tammy is a hands on operator, she often joins her staff in the kitchen to create new specials or she might be at the bar making cocktails, she enjoys having good conversation with all her customers, finding out what their needs are. She is always up to the challenge, and expects her staff to overcome any issue that might arise. Her favorite word is self motivation, she believes that if a person has the self motivation, one can be successful in life no matter what career path one chooses.

Born in Taiwan, raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, she is the mother of one son, Matthew. Still living in Pennsylvania, her favorite pastime at home is cooking and entertaining with friends and family. Her other passion is travel. She loves to explore new countries and new cultures and of course, the food, which she finds extremely fascinating!

Carla owns and operates Ben-Dom Printing, a commercial printing company located in Newark Delaware. She is thrilled to now celebrate 15 years in business and is even more honored to have met so many wonderful women while servicing the Tri-State area as business owner. She is an avid believer of spay/neuter and hopes some day Delaware will be no-kill. She considers herself to be not only a perfectionist, but a serious work-a-holic, but somehow always finds quality time to spend with her now teenage sons, Benjamin and Dominick for which her business is named. She is a native Delawarean and lives primarily in Pike Creek Valley but also spends time in Bethany Beach whenever her schedule permits. Long walks and fresh crisp air keeps her motivated and inspired along with positive one liners such as Dance as if no one were watching, Sing as if no one were listening, Love like there is no tomorrow and begin everyday with a SMILE!
