Some women look as if their jewelry was made just for them and the outfit they’re wearing! These tips from Susanne of Faulkner Sterling Design will give you the confidence to dress like the best!

Open your closet and look at your clothing. Do you see bright colors with patterns or neutral colors? Do you build on a few favorite colors that make you look and feel great?

What styles do you wear most? Comfy jeans or swishy skirts? High or low necklines? Long or short sleeves? Consider your stature. Are you petite, about average, or larger?

faulkner-09-15-08-0070Survey your jewelry collection. What do you love about the pieces you wear most? Comfort? Compliments? A unique design that makes a statement? Or is it “default jewelry,” something you throw on when you need to get to work?

Given your taste, what word in the title best describes your style?

  1. Neutral or solid colors like black, red, turquoise, blue, or khaki worn as a column of color serve as a backdrop for a beautiful piece of jewelry. Choose beads based on your size.
  2. Think about the necklines of your clothing. If beaded or adorned, skip the necklace and splurge on eye-catching earrings and a coordinating bracelet.
  3. Clean lines and a classic neckline allow for flashier jewelry. Keep your style in mind! Flashy is different for different people.
  4. Do you talk with your hands? Your listeners will be attracted to your bracelets and rings.
  5. A choker draws attention to your neck. If that’s not where you want to focus, choose a longer length.
  6. Longer necklaces draw attention to your bust line, especially if you are wearing a V-neck. The focus shifts with a slightly shorter necklace.
  7. Jewelry can be created as a matching set, or you can coordinate pieces with common elements to reflect the color or style of an outfit.
  8. Let your clothes “try on” your jewelry. Group and regroup your jewelry by color, size, style and metal to harmonize elements of each.
  9. Consider adding custom jewelry to your collection to set apart a favorite blazer, fabric or even your little black dress.
  10. Remember. people often remember your jewelry more than your clothes. Always make a statement. Don’t be afraid to be seen!
