It was two o’clock in the morning. My head was swirling with mathematical equations that seemed to be emitting a soft glow of color. Perhaps it was a dream, but the colors, repetitive patterns, and sine waves were becoming wildly vivid and more clearly defined. I was awake.

Driven to get out of bed and go to the computer, I first searched sacred geometry, a subject I had become familiar with in recent years. Eventually, I was led to a page on fractals. Exquisite and brilliantly colored, fractals are repeating patterns at increasing levels of magnification derived from mathematical formulations. They are an abstract art form that brings an unseen multidimensional expression of nature into physical form generated by a computer.

Night transitioned into dawn. I had learned about the history of the most famous fractal formula, Mandelbrot Set, discovered by Oxford mathematician Professor Benoit Mandelbrot in the 1960’s. The Julia Set, discovered by, French mathematician Gaston Julia, followed the pi ratio and could be found in nature represented as the nautilus and spiral galaxies. After my first cup of coffee, I was ready to download fractal software that contained thousands of unfamiliar equations and symbols. Where was I to begin, and why, math had never been my strongest subject in school.

By late afternoon, I had overlaid countless, meaningless formulations on the basic fractal shape called a Mandelbrot, and had created my first fractal art form. Well, so much for stunning or looking exquisite, it was flat, ugly and alien-like. I felt I was missing a hidden aspect to these fractal images, the connection to the deeper understanding of this dynamic energy system. My glance went towards a jar of my moisturizer, Aurora, sitting unassumingly on the counter. In a quiet and peaceful state of mind, I held the jar of cream within my awareness. Intuitively, I was led to select each perfect equation followed by another equation and so the process continued. Four weeks and hundreds of equations later, Aurora emerged as a bright and powerful physical interpenetrating representation of its herbal energy field.

Through his famous equation, E = mc², Albert Einstein proved that energy and matter are dual expressions of the same universal substance. This universal substance is the primal energy of which we are all composed. The ancient herbal recipe for Aurora is 5000 years old, but the energy that it is emitting is completely unique and ageless. Quantum physics has shown us that all matter is really energy. Perhaps, we are being given the opportunity to better understand, at a deeper level, how our physiology is affected by therapies using herbs and flowers. If we are beings of energy, then it follows that our bodies can be affected by the application or visualization of energy.
